Trump just openly declared that invoking the Insurrection Act will let him implement his immigration crackdown without going "through the court system."

That's nonsense, but it's telling: Trump *thinks* it allows him to rule like a military dictator. 1/

He thinks it lets him abuse his power however he wants. It’s up to the courts—and the American people—to show him otherwise.

yes. this is one of the major weaknesses of an administration helmed by an indifferent and doddering old man and run by vicious ideologues. they are totally unresponsive to public conditions. also a sign that they are isolated from those republicans who are worried about elections
the Millers in the administration are operating on the idea that "politics" is actually irrelevant now that they control key levers of power. the show is not about getting people on board, but getting the public to feel a collapse of order. not sure how that gets them to dictatorship though.

Trump is currently instigating an international conflict that could lead to war with Europe and a domestic conflict that could lead to a civil war in Minnesota.

Nobody wants any of this. It’s madness.

The Trump regime aims to make America whiter by deporting and violently repressing racial minorities they hate, including citizens and various noncriminals.

As @gregsargent.bsky.social argues, no way to do that without awful optics. A majority of Americans were raised to think the Gestapo was bad.
Trump is privately worried about the "optics" of ICE raids and his advisers are looking for ways to soften them, Axios reports. I'm calling bullshit: The terror and violence cannot be hived off from the broader policy agenda. They are 100% intrinsic to it.

It's striking that the federal line is now simply that there is no justifiable or legal means of resistance, defense, or protest, against ICE period. That seems to me like a change/escalation (though I know it's not unprecedented). Either assist ICE or comply with them, or be attacked and slandered.
The actual story is that a family of American citizens trying to evacuate from a neighborhood that ICE had made unsafe, and then ICE tossed munitions into the car, causing three kids to be hospitalized and a six month old to stop breathing. DHS called the family “radical agitators”
