Did most of Christmas dinner myself yesterday (husband helped chop and prep when needed though). Turkey, stuffing, parsnips, carrots, and cranberry sauce (not pictured). Pretty happy with how it all came out

12 dead at a mass shooting at a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach.💔

A 43-year-old father of two, Ahmed al Ahmed, snuck up & tackled a gunman to disarm him. Ahmed was shot twice.

Both Jewish & Muslim faiths teach that “to save one life is to save all humanity.” Let us hold fast to our humanity.❤️

“Remote work is bad but AI is good” from the wealthy land owners who hate that their offices are not being occupied, but none of them can explain how AI taking everyone’s jobs is going to occupy those same office spaces.

Looking back on the murder of the brilliant and astonishing Ken Saro-Wiwa, 30 years on. He was executed for seeking to stop the despoilation of the Niger Delta by Shell. His murder prefigured much of what we have seen since. He remains a guiding light to us.

Mark Manson (author of one of those insufferable and inescapable self-help books) released a video about "why nobody reads anymore". He gives the usual stuff about scrolling, attention spans, but then admits he uses AI "all the time" and that reading is a waste of time compared to that

If I had Elon Musk's money I would become a light and tree evangelist. All my resources would be spent educating people on better lighting and making it happen in public spaces and planting fucking trees everywhere and creating trusts for arborists to maintain them

Yesterday was @bertsbooks.bsky.social Penguin classics subscription delivery day. The cat very much approves of this months choice!

Reform are so dangerous and this headline doesn’t do it justice. I also think a piece like this should start with the politician‘s core views just to emphasise the urgency.

(My subscription of penguin clothbound classics has been the best thing I've done with my money all year)

This is one of my favourite pieces so far as The Times emphasises how AMAZING swifts are & how small the ask of swift bricks is, illustrating how pathetic Labour are being. www.thetimes.com/comment/the-...

If we accept someone is a genuine refugee and they build a life here, perhaps have children born here, what is the advantage to us of expelling them once we’ve persuaded ourselves that their country of origin is safe?

Great piece by Zadie Smith. When the right talks about classics or "Western" culture, these works are only important to the extent that it demonstrates their superiority, they have no interest in art in and of itself beyond that www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Morales: I don’t care if you’re the most individualistic person on the planet—because you “lift yourself up by your bootstraps” and think government should stay out of your business and “don’t tread on me.” Climate change is already treading on you, and you should care about this issue.

Anyway last night I dreamt we all voted to stick musk and the other tech bros on one of his rockets to mars, which had a 99% probability of exploding

We could have done that instead of making him a trillionaire

basically every 2024 truism is dead. Trump did not build a lasting multiracial coalition or turn young men into committed Republicans. You don’t need to cave on trans rights to win. The pundits have nothing left to tell you.
