We shall lie down pleasantly dreaming that the people of Missouri are on the verge of making their State free; and we shall awake to the reality, instead, that the Supreme Court has made Illinois a slave State

A small note: terrible things are happening in Minneapolis. But also in Saint Paul. And in the suburbs. And though most of the push is in the metro, things are happening all over the state.

I've been trying to refer to the events as happening in the Twin Cities or in Minnesota.

i feel like the viral bus thread resonates because at every step of the way you're like "ok surely this will be resolved shortly, any second now," which seems like what all the passengers are also thinking. then the fact that the situation doesn't resolve and the bus just keeps going is an Allegory

ICE is terrorizing schoolchildren in the Twin Cities again today
January 20, 2026 at 3:59 PM
ICE is camping out at Spanish speaking churches in my neighborhood and terrorizing above who looks a certain way. They arrested my American born neighbor's cousin in front of her church last week. Why won't anyone talk about that?!
Rep. Keith Self on anti-ICE protesters who disrupted a church service in the Twin Cities: "I compare them to Hamas who live-streamed the attack in Israel that killed hundreds of people. They want to instill terror."

Russian peasants with the Tsar. "If only he knew!"
To be clear--this is beyond pathetic.
Tillis: "To be clear -- I'm not critical of the president. I'm critical of the bad advice he's getting on Greenland."

Everyone really thought he was talking about someone else. They all thought the boot would go on someone else's neck.
I guess they thought they were special since the Cuban-American community largely supports Trump.

I just yelled at some poor guy who was just trying to check on his friend, my neighbor. We both took turns apologizing in the Minnesotan fashion because we're both just trying to keep our friends and neighbors safe.
It's a small thing, but it fills me with civic pride to walk through the giant park near my house and see Hmong families having cookouts, Somali parents pushing their laughing kids on the swings.

Like, here are people who've endured horrors, and my city has welcomed them in to build peaceful lives.
Yes. My theory of the moment is Miller/Vance thought their view that immigrants threaten social solidarity would be widely shared. But ICE raids are driving native-born Americans to show solidarity with immigrants quite courageously. Now Miller is trying to disrupt that alliance with state violence.

Hey @cityofsaintpaul.bsky.social @governorwalz.mn.gov There's no way this window tint is legal! Cite these bastards!
ICE is at my house I'm assuming to intimidate my wife or terrorize my legal naturalized neighbor's. East Saint Paul. FUCK ICE!

I checked out FdB way back when andrew sullivan still had a decent blog, and the first essay I found was him complaining that TNC was a fool because he thought the Civil War was justified, and how he was too lazy to consider pacifism. Last time I took him seriously.
last time i interacted with him his posts were all about how he could do my job better than i could. it's like oh yeah there's that deboer magic

Buddy, Minnesota is in the midwest, and we are currently sheltering record numbers of trans people and gay people. The biggest MAGA chud of all is from New York City. Your enemy isn't hiding in the parts of the country you don't like, they are your neighbors.

My YMCA used to have a lot of enthusiastic Republican Hmong guys, the kind that wear t-shirts with Hillary in Joker makeup. I was always tempted to tell them that no matter how much they loved them, the GOP would never love them back. I wonder how they're doing these days. I wonder how they feel.
ICE ended up returning the man, Saly, after realizing he’s a fucking US citizen with no criminal record, per his sister-in-law. These fucking animals.

My wife is out tracking ICE and i'm having a tiny panic attack, and trying to convince myself that bravery is what your do when you are afraid.

I love how all of these guys talk like Russian peasants about the tsar.
Louisiana senator John Kennedy said: “To invade Greenland & attack its sovereignty, a fellow Nato country, would be weapons-grade stupid. President Trump is not weapons-grade stupid.”

To which I say - “Ah - yeah he is”
Bottom line - even Rethuglicans are saying no to attacking Greenland

The vast majority of their fundraising goes automatically to the spam filters of my email and text. I don't have to do anything, they are so bad at their jobs that the automatic filters catch it for me. Parasites screaming that they are actually symbiotic
it’s hard to have standout delusions of grandeur in democratic politics but holy hell
I work with state parties every single day. There are only a handful of national leaders who actually raise real money for the year organizing state parties do--Ken Martin (dnc chair), Simon Rosenberg (Hopium), Sen. Warren and Actblue. Come for Simon and you come for all of us.

I left the church because while most people professed to believe certain things, it became painfully obvious they didn't really believe them. But i get it.

You can't hate these un-American fascist pricks enough. The one thing I need to hear from leadership in MN is that we won't forget them. That we will pursue them. That we will seek to extradite them and bring them to justice no matter how long the wait.
How much more in your face can it be?

"Why are you asking me for my paperwork?"
"Because of your accent."
"You have an accent too."
"Where were you born sir?"
"Where were you born at?"
"Put your hands behind your back."

My kid's piano lessons in Minneapolis got canceled, small fry in the wider scope of what is going on, but it's still because our cities are under siege by fucking ICE.

One day I hope we get a chance to extradite every last one of these motherfuckers to Minnesota to face justice for what they did.
