ECCC released the 2025 Progress Report on the 2030 Emissions Reduction plan:

The 2026 target is 20% below 2005 levels & the 2030 target is 40-45% below.

This Progress Report states that "With Measures" reductions will instead be 16% in 2026 and 21% in 2030. [p.21]

The feds' climate progress report is here & says emissions from the oil & gas sector — which is increasing production — will “stay flat” through to 2035 with current policy. Canada will miss its targets unless there are immediate policy changes. www.nationalobserver.com/2025/12/17/n...
Ottawa confirms it will miss emission targets unless major policy shifts are made
The federal government will need to make policy adjustments immediately if it is intent on hitting its 2026 and 2030 emission reduction targets, experts say.

Dwight is a rural landowner in Two Hills, #Alberta.

12 years ago, he was forced to host a gas well on his land, on the condition that the industry fully close and clean it up when the well stopped producing.

That never happened.

Two prominent members of the Net-Zero Advisory Body, including its chair, have resigned this week, citing a lack of influence over a government that’s increasingly pulling back on climate action.

I missed this big news from India last month. The power regulator of Rajasthan, one of the states leading the solar charge, has blocked permitting of a coal-fired power plant.
Plenty of solar, nuclear and batteries on the way, and permitting coal could lock in costly long-term contracts.

There is ZERO chance a new pipeline doesn't contribute to #ClimateChange. Literally ZERO. That's not refutable. You have to outright ignore #Scope3 (the product's end use) let alone all that #CarbonCapture boondoggle nonsense.

#MarkCarney won't tell Canadians the truth.

Following Environment Minister Julie Dabrusin's refusal to say whether or not a new pipeline would contribute to climate change yesterday, that makes two major figures in Carney's government who have been unsure about the environmental impact of a new pipeline to export oil to be burned overseas.

Big Oil is "wildly desperate to dodge the growing array of lawsuits over the damage caused by their decades-long scheme to deceive the public about climate change," writes @aaronregunberg.bsky.social.

The fossil fuel industry is again urging the Supreme Court to help them escape accountability.
The Supreme Court’s Ethics Code Is a Joke. Big Oil Knows That.
Oil companies want the Supreme Court to intervene to dismiss lawsuits about climate change. Amy Coney Barrett and Samuel Alito both have big conflicts of interest on that front.
