Baker & Taylor folks, I am so, so sorry. This is terrible news.

Baker & Taylor appears to be shutting down. A post on the r/libraries subreddit from an employee of B&T breaks the news and there appear to be other employees in the comments confirming the situation.

Today is the 75th anniversary of Peanuts. From 1948, here’s what might be the first article about Charles Schulz, from the magazine of Art Instruction, Inc., a mail-order school founded by my great-grandmother’s younger half-brother.
First page of article about Charles Schulz when he was an instructor at Art Instruction Inc. in 1948 An example of Charles Schulz’s Li’l Folks, a proto-Peanuts-like cartoon panel Last page of 1948 article on Charles Schulz and his cartooning

Four black and white panels of a boy and girl sitting on steps. 1st panel: Charlie Brown is approaching and the boy says “Well! Here comes ol’ Charlie Brown!” 2nd panel: As Charlie Brown passes, he says “Good ol’ Charlie Brown…yes, sir!” 3rd panel: “Good ol’ Charlie Brown…” 4th panel: Once Charlie is gone, “How I hate him!”

Another weird 1970's kids book series I was way into as a kid was the Sweet Pickles. I had the whole alphabet set in a bus shaped container. Looking at these now, I'm 1000 percent sure every one of these animals are some shade of LGBTQ+

👀 Just Now -- President Trump in the Oval Office said a government shutdown gives his administration the power to cut benefit programs, which include Social Security and Medicare.

www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...
“We can do things during the shutdown that are irreversible, that are bad for them, and irreversible by them, like cutting vast numbers of people out, cutting things that they like, cutting programs that they like. And, you all know Russell Vought. He’s become very popular recently because he can trim the budget to a level that you couldn't do any other way. So they're taking a risk by having a shutdown. Because of the shutdown, we can do things medically and other ways, including benefits. We can cut large numbers of people. We don't want to do that, but we don't want fraud, waste and abuse.”

Coming after years of anthology contributions and mini-comics, Walker Tate's long-form debut LASER EYE SURGERY was one of my most highly-anticipated books of the year, and I'm sad to say it did not live up to expectations. My latest review, for TCJ:

Gasoline Alley by Frank King from September 30, 1923.
Walt and Skeezix are struggling to get Pal to understand fetch. He goes for the stick but doesn't bring it back. They decide to walk into town and try to discourage Pal from following. He keeps after them and in frustration, Walt throws a stick. This time, Pal not only goes for it but brings it back to Walt, who declares "Pal, you either have no brains at all or else you're a lot smarter than I am."
