Hi 👋 to new followers! If you're looking for only weather content, apologies in advance. I'm a whole person w/hot takes of all kinds. E.g.: Super Mario Bros 2 is my favorite. Computer rankings should help decide the college football playoffs. Your students are better than you give them credit for.

when UNC scored on the first possession of the first game and Colin Cowherd immediately posted this, and then UNC lost by 34
Wasn’t really sure what to expect from Chapel Bill. But after that drive, I have him as second best college coach I’ve ever seen, just below Saban.

for as much as people complain about large language models not being good with context it sure seems like people are pretty bad at it too sometimes

I love these “half of town is getting soaked, and half of town is sunny” style rain showers. 😃

(Really big drops, but not that many of them, over here at the mall.)

I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections

“All ready for school? Do a good day’s work, and act like somebody.” One of my favorite moments from the show. (Season 2, episode 2)

Got yelled at by my university for posting on LinkedIn that I'm open to jobs abroad because things are looking bleak in the US. Somehow this was interpreted as a bad look for the university? I'm just saying what everyone recognizes as reality.

Should be required to move to Atlanta if you say anything like that 🤣

happy sunday, remember that you are completely expendable to your employer and that when you die they will forget you ever existed within weeks and easily replace you

A conference just oozing with money and they can't resist selling out to an equity firm that will bleed them dry or compromise them in some other way....for just a little bit more money.

We're not just outright embracing the long-debunked idea of "learning styles" in press releases now, are we? Tell me we're not doing that, please.

(And even worse, not using learning styles as a motivation to be more accessible.)

Title: Digital accessibility to course materials benefits all learners, regardless of ability
Author line: By Kirk Johannesen October 01, 2025
First line: Students vary in how they learn. Some absorb it better by reading, others by listening or seeing visual aids.

Ha! Yeah, definitely used & shared exams w/ friends as an undergrad. And my counter these days is that my students get to keep their exams... walk out of the room with the question sheet, that's fine. Just put it all out there, may as well.

A potential headache tonight was when we were counting out exams for each row (12 each). There are multiple versions, so I want to be careful with those. "I need one more." "What version?" "I don't know." "No. That means you miscounted. Start over." Annoying! But fewer problems in the end. [2.01/2]

I've gotten my large-class exams down to a "process." The exams have mult. choice and short answer sections, so it can be overwhelming for a first time viewer. But doing things in order, and w/ careful attention to detail, actually reduces the places where it can all go wrong. [2/2]
Exam grading task checklist
Fill in version number on submitted answer sheets
Scan multiple choice section
Review scans for errors, missing, etc., bad stats
Finalize multiple choice grading
Print out answer pages with correct multiple choice answers
Alphabetize scanned multiple choice pages
Enter scores for multiple choice section in Canvas
Meeting to develop rubrics for short answer questions
Grade short answer questions
Total up short answer scores
Answer sheets must have been alphabetized by now
Enter scores for short answer section in Canvas
Alphabetize all remaining papers
Return prior to class -- 1 week after exam

I love watching the reactions as my GTAs experience proctoring an exam in my 140-person class for the first time. "The cheating is most likely in this part of the room, go stand over there." "No, stack the papers this way." "No, only one person does this, the other person stays over there." 🤯 [1/2]
