Phew - the abdomen pattern is good for flavipes too. Although the epigyne isn't the most typical for flavipes as these usually have dimples on the scape (a head scratcher specimen for sure), but flavipes it is.

#RecordOfTheWeek today is a Portuguese Man'O War (Physalia physalis) spotted in Llangennith by Phillippa Davies, washed by after last week's storms.
This species is not actually a jellyfish, but a colony of small creatures called zooids.
Many thanks for record & pic, submitted via LERC Wales App.

Cofnod #RecordOfTheWeek is this adult Marble Gall Wasp (Andricus kollari) recorded by KevinH on Mynydd Mawr. More used to seeing the actual galls on Oak, than adult. @sewbrec.org.uk @wwbic1.bsky.social

Lucky you had a freshly moulted (teneral) specimen. Sometimes they're very dark and difficult to see. Often easier to look at the paracymbium dorsally to see whether it has 2 or 1 spikes as they stick out a bit.

Yesterday's Recorders' Day started out like Sleeping Beauty (1st time taking a hedge trimmer to go recording) - ended up like Waterworld, slopping about a flooded fen all day. Attulus caricis and Baryphyma gowerense (new site record) @angleseyfloragroup.bsky.social @britishspiders.bsky.social

Just add water... (and a load of warden know-how). An hour at @rspbcymru.bsky.social Cors Ddyga: the first Pintails arriving, flocks of Golden Plover wheeling through the sky and Snipe exploring the new pools.

Cattle Egrets forage among the cows. Unseen, Skylarks calls above. Magic!
