Opening the calculator app to do 'basic' math so MATLAB and R (already open) don't judge me. 😅

Second, the cross-sectional and longitudinal meta-analyzed effects, analysis code, and codebooks are available osf.io/vaedn/ Particular kudos to Janet and Sophie for this effort. Comprehensive coding of executive function domains and heterogeneity served me well as an aging researcher.

Apart from the findings, two neat things I want to share: Approximately 9% of the meta-analyzed effects came from unpublished data which was difficult to find and incorporate. Very grateful to the authors we contacted (sometimes many times) over the years. I learned a ton about data management!

Hundreds of employees at the EPA released a “Declaration of Dissent” today, accusing EPA officials of politicizing the agency and undermining its core mission to “protect human health and the environment.” scim.ag/4lB937S

Trump team axes contracts with publishing giant Springer Nature

At first, NIH told me its contracts with SN were active and that they help “advance scientific discovery”.

Hours later, HHS said the opposite: "Precious taxpayer dollars should not be used on unused subscriptions to junk science.”

The action comes as high-ranking US officials criticize top journals as ‘woke’ and ‘corrupt’.

Truly horrified by this order in way that is deeper and darker than I have felt over many truly awful merits decisions.

"SCOTUS allows Trump admin to deport people to random countries with no notice"

Honestly still can't believe that I wrote this headline today, let alone that the U.S. Supreme Court's majority did so.
SCOTUS allows Trump admin to deport people to random countries with no notice
Justice Sotomayor called the order a "gross ... abuse" of the court's authority. Also: Law Dork in the media.

Oh, this paywalled piece DOES blame the left, for making consequences clear, not the right for creating those consequences. Do not say "there is a giant sinkhole ahead" because it will be your fault for giving a warning that is scary, not the people who dug the sinkhole.

“Cammack doesn’t fault the Florida law for her experience. Instead, she accuses the left of scaring medical professionals with messaging that stressed that they could face criminal charges for violating the law.”

🚨 It’s time to flood the zone.

NIH scientists just took a huge risk speaking out. Now it’s our turn.

I just signed the public support letter for these NIH scientists. They are speaking up against a very large political current moving against them, and they need as much vocal support as is possible to garner.

"Women are PIs on 58% of the canceled grants, although they are PIs on only 34% of all active NSF grants.

Similarly, Blacks are PIs on 17% of the terminated grants, although they make only 4% of the total pool. Hispanic PIs and those with disabilities were twice as likely to lose a grant."

Another scoop from Jeff Mervis (@policyhound.bsky.social): NSF's ~1400 grant terminations have disproportionately affected PIs from groups underrepresented in science: women, racial & ethnic minorities, & those with disabilities. 1/3
