The best explanation that I can come up with is that we're a victim of our own success. That's not to say America was ever perfect, but I think we achieved a standard of living where people could be comfortable enough to tune out and trust that things will work themselves out because they always do.

I think the simplest explanation for the Supreme Court ruling against Trump on the national guard deployments is that three of the conservative members realized that Trump having the ability to effect martial law wasnt exactly going to be salutary for the power of the judiciary

I keep saying this but no one is connecting the dots. The war is to satisfy legal preconditions for mass removal *domestically* of Latinos (i.e., suddenly a lot of people are going to be “Venezuelan” for purposes of removal). This is 100% Stephen Miller…oil claim is to make grandpa go along
There is no national security logic that would impel the US to want to do regime change in Venezuela. It's simply not that important. I'm not even sure wag the dog is the right metaphor for what's happening here. Seems like an insane misallocation of US national security assets and attention.

This is an underrated problem with a lot of conservative jurisprudence that shows why so much of it is wrong. You can easily imagine changes to the Constitution to have it say what conservatives want it to say, but you can’t do that the other way because it already says what liberals say it does
How the hell could you run on restoring birthright citizenship given that it’s already been amended into the Constitution as clear as fuck?

I think Lizza sucks, but I think his holding back the Nuzzi scandals so he could torpedo her comeback is much more justified than other times journalists held stuff back. NYT sat on warrantless wiretapping and Vance vetting to, at best, avoid GOP whining. Haberman and Woodward (like 50 times) 1/
