3/ Since February 2025, US embassies around the world have been sending letters to local contractors making similar demands. This seems to be the first time that it's been reported that a similar letter has been sent to a foreign government organisation.

Amid all the other news, it's easy to become inured to the basic facts here. Öztürk:

-Is not accused of committing any crime

-Is nonviolent

-Was in this country legally

-Merely engaged in speech that the administration objects to

-Has been locked up for six weeks
Now from Öztürk’s ACLU lawyer Esha Bhandari:

“Rümeysa Öztürk’s case is unprecedented and shocking. She has been held behind bars for six weeks while her health deteriorates for writing an op-ed.”

Cool cool. @durbin.senate.gov, @amyklobuchar.com @klobuchar.senate.gov @whitehouse.senate.gov are looking to team up with MAGA to give Donald Trump the power to censor anything he wants on the Internet.

Do they not recognize what will happen?
