One of the first things that I learned at my practicum site was how to craft a note that communicates upward momentum, but not too much progress. My site was an addiction treatment center and the implications of early treatment terminations were real. Life and death.
Insurers sometimes deny coverage citing lack of progress, labeling patients’ conditions as chronic.
Yet if they do make progress, insurers have also used that to argue patients no longer need treatment.

What’s even more disturbing is that many clinicians are relying on AI powered note takers during sessions, which could intensify this issue. I’m a big believer that the magic of therapy will always be in the human-to-human connection.

It will save you time and mental energy if you understand that a lot of white people don’t believe anything is racism unless the person doing it is wearing a shirt that says, “I am doing this for a racism.” Plausible deniability is a social survival tool for them in a way it has never been for us.

Earnest post, but: a thing I like here is it’s okay to have moments of happiness in public without being broadly scolded, and I believe that sustaining this kind of humanity will be very important as we resist fascism.
