BREAKING🚨

ABC votes unanimously to lock in huge cuts to Vancouver’s public services, throw out the 2026 budget consultation, and sell out the city we love to the rich.

A shameful day for the city, with impacts to be felt for years to come.

Update: ABC voted against this common sense amendment to reduce excessive spending at City Hall.

NOW: Councillor @seanorr.bsky.social has moved an amendment urging that the 2026 Budget cuts prioritize reducing the communications budget of the Mayor's office.

Orr is now tabling another amendment changing zero to 6-7 percent property tax. Says average savings of sims motion per month is 24 dollars per single family home owner and 8 dollars per month for a condo owner. Amendment fails.

Ken Sim's math does not add up.

His motion will result in cuts to our services.

In the non-partisan budget survey ABC is trying to throw out, city staff indicated Ken Sim’s 0% plan would result in significant cuts to services.

Mayor Sim’s zero means zero motion has been tabled. 43 speakers signed up. According to Sim, this means a zero percent property tax increase. No infrastructure tax increase.

Y'all, I didn't realize how bad this budget motion in Vancouver was until I watched the Council meeting for the last 15 minutes. It's fundamentally massive austerity sanitized through bureaucracy.

Of note: ABC is not acknowledging their previous commitments to transparency re: providing line items.

This budget is reckless. Our infrastructure is crumbling, our amenities are quite literally falling apart. A 0% increase combined with a raise for the VPD means big cuts to already struggling services and infrastructure, no matter how ABC wants to spin it.

Mayor Sim’s “Zero Means Zero” motion might better be described as the “Zero Means Cuts” motion.

If budgets are frozen, the important question for Vancouver residents is: what services and programs will be cut?

Listening to Vancouver Council and am blown away by how well informed residents are about taxation and then take the time to call in to discuss their position in favour of maintaining public services.

TL;DR good hearted Vancouverites believe in the power of taxation and wealth distribution.

They haven’t released it. We think it showed people are against it, so they’re trying to bury it.

the city pool I swim at (Britannia) is falling apart and Sim and his people canceled building a replacement. the staff try their best but like they're just patching repairs on a very old building that is regularly falling apart. with even less resources what's next?

Public safety accounts for half of every property tax dollar.

The mayor wants a 0% property tax increase.

The police budget can’t be cut.

What services will be cut? How many staff will be let go? How much will fees and parking increase?

The math isn’t mathing.
