WHAT THE HELL

As per his motion, Howard missed three consecutive board meetings on three separate occasions, placing her one meeting short of the threshold for disqualification under the Vancouver Charter.

The motion also stated she’s been absent without leave for six out of 10 meetings this year.

In a statement to CTV News, Bastyovanszky said, “Howard could have simply apologized for being absent and committed to attending in the future. The fact she showed no accountability was at best disrespectful to the people of Vancouver, at worst she broke the law and likely disqualified herself.”

The Campbell River RCMP are issuing a public safety warning following a concerning rise in overdose deaths in the community. In the past five weeks, at least 11 people have lost their lives to suspected drug overdoses.

“We are deeply concerned by the sharp increase in overdose fatalities,” said Insp. Jeff Preston, Detachment Commander of the Campbell River RCMP. “Each of these deaths represents a person with family, friends, and a future and we do not want to see this tragic trend continue.”

The RCMP, in collaboration with local health authorities, is urging anyone who uses drugs or has loved ones who do to take extra precautions.

“Our priority is to prevent further loss of life,” added Insp. Preston. “We are asking the public to share this message widely and help keep our community safe.”

Search warrants executed following drug investigation
September 11, 2025 - Campbell River, British Columbia

Cash, drugs and gun seized from Campbell River residence
On September 5, 2025, the Campbell River RCMP Street Crime Unit, with the assistance of several support and frontline units, Police Dog Services and the Island District Emergency Response team executed simultaneous search warrants at properties located in the 800 block of Homewood Road and the 800 block of Greenwood Road as part of a lengthy drug trafficking investigation.

As part of the searches, police seized the following suspected controlled substances:

128 grams of Fentanyl;
140 grams of cocaine;
19 grams of crack cocaine;
47 grams of methamphetamine;
250 suspected prescription hydromorphone pills.

February 20, 2025 - Ottawa, Ontario

Transnational criminal organizations, including cartels, play a leading role in the production and distribution of fentanyl throughout Canada. To rid Canada of this scourge, the Government of Canada will ensure law enforcement has every resource available to dismantle and disrupt the operations of these organizations in our communities.

Today, the Honourable David J. McGuinty, Minister of Public Safety, announced that the Government of Canada has listed seven organizations as terrorist entities under the Criminal Code. A terrorist listing means any property of that group in Canada can be frozen and gives Canadian law enforcement more tools to prosecute terrorist offences, including those related to financing, travel and recruitment. This listing enhances domestic law enforcement capabilities, while respecting other countries’ sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The seven entities listed today are:

Purpose and Executive Summary
This report responds to Council’s motion, approved November 22, 2022, directing City staff to allocate $8 million per year to enable the requisition and hiring of mental health nurses. In response to this motion, Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) created an Urgent Mental Health and Substance Use Service Enhancements Program (“the program”) to implement the City’s investment in mental health service enhancements. This report provides an update on progress made by VCH in implementing the program to date. Information contained in this report is accurate to July 31, 2025.
