One of the things I took away from the 60s and Richard Nixon, first mentioned by Hunter Thompson, but I believe to be true, is the fact that we believed, at time, that all our protesting, marching and sign waving was futile and pointless when in fact, it drove Richard Nixon to alcohol fueled madness

I really just think it's class and racial solidarity at work. They see themselves in him and they do not have solidarity with his targets.
The reason Charlie Kirk is being lionized by so many journalists is simple: he was very good at cultivating journalists and it seems a lot of journalists don't seem to understand the concept of being cultivated as a pet reporter in exchange for scoops or leads. They think he was their friend.

I feel stretched out in a million directions and frazzled and tired. I just got a cold or flu for a week because my body sprung that on me to force me to perform “system maintenance”.

i do think the extent to which (some) bystanders defending piper have begun framing it in this way, almost unconsciously, like a messy custody dispute, provides unintentional insight into how they are getting the story fed to them by piper
This is not a custody case, but a disturbing number of bystanders are treating it in a similar way—the survivor says, “A abused me,” and their partner (B) says, “A abused the survivor”, but A says “no, B abused the survivor by manipulating them and turning them against me!”
