So we have silly things like racist people saying that their "Christian values"made them vote for Trump... 🤡

While those same racist people reject Raphael Warnock, a real life reverend and Baptist pastor. And those same racist people hate Pope Leo, the head of the Catholic church.
Reverend Raphael Warnock. Pope Leo.

There is a gulf in America. I submit it is the gulf between good and evil, or at least not-evil and evil.

The gulf is not just between people who oppose this and people who are indifferent to it or reluctantly accept it in support of immigration policy or see it as collateral damage.

This raid is disgusting, abominable behavior, traumatizing children and families in their homes.

"They was terrified. The kids was crying. People was screaming. They looked very distraught. I was out there crying when I seen the little girl come around the corner, because they was bringing the kids down, too, had them zip tied to each other," Watson said. "That's all I kept asking. What is the morality? Where's the human? One of them literally laughed. He was standing right here. He said, 'f*** them kids.'"

Ugh, I think I'm about 10 years out from managing the same sort of issues for my parents, who like to stick their head in the sand about health and life issues as well. From all I've ever seen of you, you are the opposite of your dad in how you treat others. Good on you Sean.

Black folk will tell you: The 1st thing cops say after an incident is always a lie.🤷🏿‍♂️

They lie because there's upside in it for them, and no downside.

No matter how many times they get caught lying, newspapers will print their next lie as the gospel truth.🤡

And people stop caring before truth hits

ICE lied about the person it shot, claiming he was a "criminal," but NBC finds that he had no criminal history whatsoever. Not even traffic tickets in 12 years! It also lied about the extent of the injuries to its agents....

Every few months now I re-read this "Who Goes Nazi?" piece from 1941 and am blown away by how it captures the people we are dealing with 80 years later.

Reagan judges are comparing ICE to the KKK
charlottegarden.bsky.social
Judge Young is (rightly) horrified by masked ICE agents - but he also finds them cowardly:
Can you imagine a masked marine? It is a matter of honor -- and honor still matters. To us, masks are associated with cowardly desperados and the despised Ku Klux Klan. In all our history we have never tolerated an armed masked secret police. Carrying on in this fashion, ICE brings indelible obloquy to this administration and everyone who works in it. “We can not escape history,” Lincoln righty said. “[It] will light us down in honor or dishonor, to the latest generation.” Abraham Lincoln, Second Annual Message to Congress (Dec. 1, 1862).

Judge Young is a Reagan appointee, by the way.

Young’s opinion, which rules that the Trump admin illegally targeted pro-Palestinian students for deportation, is absolutely scathing.

“In all our history we have never tolerated an armed masked secret police…ICE brings indelible obloquy to this administration and everyone who works in it.”
And there's the issue of masks. This Court has listened
carefully to the reasons given by Öztürk's captors for masking-
up and has heard the same reasons advanced by the defendant Todd
Lyons, Acting Director of ICE. It rejects this testimony as
disingenuous, squalid and dishonorable. ICE goes masked for a
single reason -- to terrorize Americans into quiescence. Small
wonder ICE often seems to need our respected military to guard
them
as they go about implementing our immigration laws. It
should be noted that our troops do not ordinarily wear masks.

Perhaps we're now afraid to stick our necks out. If the
distinguished Homeland Security intelligence agency can be
weaponized to squelch the free speech rights of a small, hapless
group of non-citizens in our midst, so too can the Federal Home
Loan Mortgage Corporation, and the audit divisions of the I.R.s.
and the Social Security Administration be unconstitutionally

One of the most important pillars of fascism is the erosion of the public’s confidence in established institutions.

When reputable media outlets frame fascist propaganda like this, they’re doing the work of fascism.

A lot of companies are not "pro-fascism" or "anti-fascism." They are "pro-making-more-money."🤷🏿‍♂️

Companies do face consequences for opposing fascism. If they can be pro-fascism and face no consequence? Then there is a perverse incentive to be pro-fascism.

You *help* them by balancing the scales.🤯

I'm so embarrassed to be an American right now. Donald Trump is a senile old codger, standing before the United Nations, reading a speech clearly written by an alt right lunatic and a bunch of oil and gas lobbyists. Well done, U.S. voters. You really fucked this one up.

I can raise math, English and science scores in a district more by offering free breakfast and lunch, than by banning cell phones.

But one feels like punishment and blaming bad, lazy, kids, and the other requires acknowledging adults' role in creating a dystopian environment not ideal for learning.
