Well hello!

I'm Coyote (or Mae), and I have been practicing witchcraft intentionally for over 30 years, with an animist focus.

I live near PDX with cats, chickens, partner and teen.

My latest project is a new community, started with friends. Join us!

This Lost Science series at @nytimes.com is a depressing look at the incredible science and training lost to grant cancellations and mass federal firings. Here's one about important work to understand how air pollution can lead to infertility.

Very difficult if not impossible. So even though I had my moments of "what the hell, a kid could be cool" I have never been a person who felt like it was a must for a fulfilling life. I have also had a large part in raising other people's biological children and that is also awesome.
coyotethewitch.bsky.social
A life without pain and fatigue and many other things that impacted my life despite being told "this is normal for some women" would have been a wonderful trade off for knowing what experience already had showed me, that bio kids were not in the cards. (I had adenomyosis, which makes implantation

Can we just ban "normal for some women" from medical practice until we rule out actual issues?

And trust people with uteruses to make decisions about whether or not we want to keep them?

Even if all my things were "normal" (spoiler: they weren't) I still was cool not having bio kids.
coyotethewitch.bsky.social
I was told for YEARS that a cervix that bleeds easily was "normal for some women" and then they discovered that I had endometriosis on my cervix. Which my OB-GYN said was "clinically fascinating".

And I also had all the awful pain and bleeding. "Normal for some women." Iron infusions, all of it.

#MedicalMisogyny thread. (TMI incoming lol)

My story is similar but without the forced hormones because no one ever got past "well that is normal for some women" until last year and only because I had inconclusive paps.

I spent years of my life fighting for a medically necessary hysterectomy.

I was denied because I might “meet a man who wants kids some day”.

I was put on strong hormones that I didn’t want.

One of those was Depo Provera, which we now know is linked to brain tumours 🧵

Happy #WorldOctopusDay!

Do you have your party hat (anemone) ready?
Drawing of an adorable tiny yellow flapjack octopus with flappy transparent "ears" that is wearing a small striped sea anemone on its head. The stripes are in the pink, blue, and white colors of the trans flag.

And they were really stumped for a while about who was helping themselves to the exhibits each night! Haha

As someone who was raised agnostic, I agree. My only issue is when people aren't honest about what is new and what is actually ancient tradition and practice because they think that newness isn't as valid as ancient things. Like it's ok to follow a path created in the 20th century. Really.

You know the voice in the back of your head that says no one wants to read your book?

Drown it.
Burn it with fire.
Get a bat and start swinging.

Don't let it exist and lie to you. Destroy it and keep writing.

Keep. Writing.

Haha yeah I did hear that! They are so incredibly intelligent.

This is the best time of year for weather in the PNW, I think.

It can sometimes be a gamble for sun vs. rain, but both are beautiful. And the temps are friendly.

Absolutely sublime fall weather in the PNW today. The trees were a chromatic fire. 🍁

I spoke your true name. It's not what I thought it would be. And I don't feel easy about it. As if I'd left something unfinished. But it is your name. If it betrays you, then that's the truth of it.

Behaviores Report: 100% goode, obviousey!
Orange and white cat, dainty paws, his behavior report is 100% good

If you have never seen one in real life, let me assure you how awe inspiring and beautiful they are. And maybe a bit unsettling too.

I used to save up when I lived poor in Seattle in the 90s to go watch the one in the underwater dome at the aquarium. So graceful. It soothed me so much.

The largest octopus species is the Giant Pacific, which grows to a diameter around 4.3 meters (14 feet).

“Because your radio is to the surface, you take a lot of flak for screaming like a 2-year-old when you run into an octopus.”

Is there really a giant octopus under the Tacoma Narrows Bridge?

Many thanks! I'll give it a listen.

Side note, 733t speak will always make me think of Kingdom of Loathing 🤣 (Which I played a lot in the early 00s).

There's so many foundational books (not just in relation to the magical community but in general) that are like that for me and I keep giving them a go, but yeah sometimes I have to be "well, that's enough of that" until I am compelled again.
coyotethewitch.bsky.social
Same. It's definitely a product of its time and place, but I also had to change my lens from "Foundational Pagan Tome" to "poetry related to myth and myth-making."
