In 1949, Newfoundland and Labrador joined Canada as the 10th province. As soon as it joined, CBC began broadcasting from the island.
Two years later, the network launched The Fisheries Broadcast. It started as a 15-minute program but was expanded to 30 minutes.

Heard many times tonight on CBC that Pierre Poilievre was clearly the most experienced politician among the party leaders as the House of Commons started up again today. I don’t think I heard them mention that it’s because he’s the one who’s never had ANY other job.

And still no security clearance.

This iconic Fabian Todorovic cartoon is still one of the best I’ve seen at illustrating the remarkable amount of space we surrender to cars, leaving little space left for everyone and everything else. The text added later makes the bonus point that many drivers still manage to complain about it.

We're supposed to be a smart country, using evidence-based decision-making, yet we give up on this principle at the first sign of resistance. Active transportation infrastructure needs to be expanded countrywide, fullstop.
Removing choice in transportation mode is inequitable. Not everyone can drive - like children, older adults or people with disabilities. Thanks to the Halifax Examiner for publishing my commentary. Currently not paywalled: www.halifaxexaminer.ca/commentary/b...

In January 1992, the Coca-Cola plant in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador closed its doors.
The residents of the province never forgot this.
They boycotted Coke and supported a local plant that produced Pepsi.
