some masking—in grocery stores, pharmacies, transit, *medical settings*—is better than none; every chain of transmission broken matters.

worth noting how many physicians not only refuse to wear an N95 to protect their patients from preventable illness, but become angry & abusive when asked for this basic infection control

It took me 28 years to go from carceral feminist to abolitionist. @saaarah.bsky.social tells that story here.
The Feminist Law Professor Who Wants to Stop Arresting People for Domestic Violence
For years, Leigh Goodmark was convinced that the way to keep women safe was through arrests and prosecutions. Now she’s pushing for the opposite.

I want to write articles/essays but I'm not sure anyone will read them. Failing out of humanities academia may have been one of the worst choices I ever made.

And y’all taking your masks off are complicit— You are letting them, you are hand in hand in that push toward forgetting by pretending there is no ongoing risk to yourselves or others. You, your loved ones, get repeatedly infected, brush off ongoing symptoms in pursuit of a 2019 normal long gone.
Of course, it’s rooted in the fact that the pandemic demonstrated perfectly and plainly that the conservative project of markets first, disempowered labor, and shrinking government was not suited to 21st Century problems.

COVID relief programs proved government can work.

They want us to forget.

This week's list of must-reads includes this piece from my friend Willow Schenwar, a trans woman who writes, "Fascists will go as far as they can to try to shape public perception and create oppressive realities by manipulating language and symbols—don’t let them."
Reject the Linguistic Coup: Speak Up for Trans People
The Trump administration is trying to shape public perception on transness by manipulating language and symbols—don’t let it.

FYI - no social media on my phone anymore, just direct messaging apps. Don't assume I see anything; if it's relevant or important please send a DM on the most direct platform you've got. Signal / SMS preferred.

My latest @kqedarts.bsky.social story about sold-out masks-required shows sums up many of my thoughts on the ongoing pandemic's fifth anniversary. Many of us are living in the actual new normal. It's never too late to start protecting your loved ones & self again! www.kqed.org/arts/1397262...

👏 "Prevention is not someone else's job" 👏
if you’re expressing horror at this administration’s dismantling of science and health infrastructure but you yourself are not contributing to changing the landscape, why?

prevention is not someone else’s job, especially right now— public health relies on you, the public.

it’s time to mask up.
a mask is the thing you’re looking for. it is the visible reminder of how things have changed, that you acknowledge we are not coveted “normal” times—but unlike donation-earned tote bags or symbolic beaded bracelets, the mask is community care in both form & immediate function.

seeing a lot of "all we need is hope" posts but y'all, we need more than hope. We need people who haven't been acting to act, and I don't have faith in that happening.

my social media atp is all desperate crowd funding. with over $200 of debt just in my checking account, I get ~5 views per post, so there's nothing I can do. Every time I open my phone/computer I'm more convinced the answer is to k m s so I stop taking resources from others.

Not gonna live through this. Constantly wondering if it will be easier for the people I love it I plan that out instead of letting it surprise us.

So grateful my SNAP finally came in at least partially. About to put in an order for more bread making supplies, including a sourdough starter so I won't need yeast long-term

Learned EBT also lets me buy seeds, so some of my survival garden will be funded, too.

Quit therapy today because I was like, "Hey, it feels pointless and like a waste of my limited energy to do self-improvement when everyone wants me dead."

And she was like, "yeah, fair."
