School drilled into us how destroying ourselves in order to look good on paper was a virtue. If we wanted to be good adults, we were to keep destroying ourselves in the name of capitalism.

I love the versatility of "baby" in Black vernacular. It's very tonal. Like the dude in the corner store calls me baby in a way that's not cool. An older woman or man, stranger or loved one, may call me baby. I may express a superior tone or warmth with it. When I call my lover baby it's special.

For the first time in like 16 years our family Christmas gathering isn't happening because my grandma is in the hospital. I am considering not even leaving home Thursday so I might just be spending Christmas alone for the first time ever. All I can say is... I'm sad.
