When I was struggling through a long stretch of burnout before the pandemic, a counselor suggested trying to remember something that had made me happy in the past - a hobby, a band, whatever - and digging back into that, no matter how silly. Feels like good advice to try to return to now.

lede = introductory section in journalism

bury the lede = hiding the most relevant pieces of a story within other distracting information

Allegedly, it’s spelled ‘lede’ to avoid confusion with ‘lead,’ which was the strip of metal that would separate lines of type.

What’s the word where you’re from that, when pronounced exactly as it looks, identifies a tourist immediately?

Halloween! Nightmare King! Ghost! Ghost Pepper! Wednesday! And now the Jack-O-Lantern Whopper. I'm the only person in the world with a complete collection of Burger King's Halloween Whoppers, dating as far back as 2015. Can't believe I'm single.
Every Burger King Halloween Whopper, from 2015 to now. (Why though?)

Charles Earl Boles was an 1870s American stagecoach robber who left poems at his crime scenes, signing them “Black Bart”. One verse was:

I’ve labored long and hard for bread,
For honor, and for riches,
But on my corns too long you’ve tread,
You fine-haired sons of bitches.

Ugh, the struggle is real! 😭 Just went through the "buffet" stage with Chess trying to find the next food she would deign to eat. Good luck to you both!

The wood is a constant promise to the witch. It whispers of magics, wild harvest and omens to be found on its paths. It never breaks it oaths to her. – #EmilyCBanting, 1982 #WitchSky

I remember when this was in the news as a kid. One year my class did some sort of fundraiser and bought an acre of rainforest. I've wondered whatever happened to acres "saved" in this way; the pessimist in me thinks they burned anyway.

Some grave guardians are open to being stroked. Some will growl if your hand reaches towards them. It is wise to know which are which before one goes poking at tombs. – #CLNolan

Traditional cream scones with pumpkin butter. I tossed some minced crystallized ginger in the dough since I had some in the pantry. #baking 😋😋😋
A hot scone right out of the oven spread with butter and pumpkin butter (a cooked pumpkin compote that has no dairy in it) on a blue plate.

And be sure to peep the new gold-purchasable equipment in the Enchanted Armoire, including the Black Party Dress. Enjoy :)

In 2001, Kellogg's upped its Halloween cereal game with CANDY CORN POPS - bummer that even 24 years later, it has still never seen a re-release
