A 36-foot bronze octopus loomed near a bicyclist passing by Chalestown Navy Yard. Called “The Arms of Friendship," the 8-ton sculpture was created by artists Gillie and Marc and features endangered animals in each of its limbs.

The Healey-Driscoll Administration today announced $7.5 million will be awarded through the MassTrails grant program to support 50 trail projects that will improve and expand the trail network across Massachusetts.

On Sunday October 5 the Middlesex Canal Association leads their autumn bike ride retracing the route and history of the canal from Charlestown to Lowell
Historic Bicycle Tour of Mid dlesex Canal
This coming Sunday, October 5, 2024, the Middlesex Canal Association and the Middlesex Canal Commission will sponsor the 23rd annual historic bicycle tour of the Middlesex Canal. The ride will start at the Canal marker on the front of the Sullivan Square MBTA station just to the right of the main entrance. We will leave promptly at 9:00. The Great River Ride, legendary for its rural New England fall foliage and its baked potato rest stop, rolls out of Westfield on Sunday, Oct 12. Proceeds benefit the @columbiagreenway.org and their railtrail.

Time: Gather at 9:30 a.m.; the ride departs at 10:00 a.m.
Meet: Joan Lorentz Park/Main Library; 449
Broadway; near the intersection of Broadway and Trowbridge Street
Trace the city's bow tie shape on the Bow Tie Community Bike Ride, hosted by the Cambridge Bicycle Committee and Department of Transportation! Stay tuned for route updates through these emails or the Cambridge Bike Rides website. Additional Things to Know
The ride will be relaxed, family friendly, and on mostly level terrain. Our ride will span Cambridge end-to-end, celebrating its unique bow tie shape beginning and ending at Joan Lorentz Park/Main Library (follow the path from the intersection of Broadway and Trowbridge Street). The ride will begin at 10:00 a.m. and include a mid-ride break at Riverside Park.
Join us after the ride for light refreshments.

Boston’s new “Better Buffers” initiative plans to replace flexposts with cast-in-place curbs. Somerville has started using pre-cast curbs recently. I assume pre-cast is cheaper/quicker to implement and just as protective as cast-in-place.
