Scenes from Glasgow in 1975, featuring the city centre and the M8. The contrast between tenement demolition and the new motorways and Anderston Centre is presumably meant to illustrate progress.

This is what should be on every front page right now. What's happening in the US right now is an illegal power grab by a private citizen. IT'S A COUP.

It's a digital coup. It's Musk who's leading it. The consequences are terrifying. And it's coming for us next.

Lime bikes switched out their German tyres for a cheaper Chinese alternative and are now being sued by multiple users who have broken limbs because, they say, the new tires aren't as suitable for London weather. A little globalisation fable for our times
Imagine a revolutionary method of transport which offers so many benefits but where the appropriate level of safety and vehicle maintenance is decided by Californian tech investors who are seeking rapid financial growth.

Let’s talk about Lime in London!

Did Lime switch to bike tyres ‘less suitable for London's roads’?
The company denies the change to cheaper Chinese tyres on its e-bikes was a cost-cutting measure, as more Londoners come forward with severe injuries.

Trump has deployed active military to help round up migrants and put them into detention camps.

The military forced us out of our homes at gunpoint in 1942 because we were considered possibly disloyal Americans. They sent us to internment camps for four years.

History is repeating. Pay attention.

As always, very good thread by John on the current trend of 'Europeanisation' of British politics and their impact on reform capacities.

Looking a bit closer at the underlying @yougov.co.uk data makes a grim reading for the Labour government:
The Europeanisation of British politics continues. What does this mean for small-r reform - not the party, but attempts to expand the supply capacity of the UK economy? Thread.
Our first voting intention since the general election shows a close contest between Labour and Reform UK (12-13 Jan 2025)

Labour: 26%
Reform UK: 25%
Conservatives: 22%
Lib Dems: 14%
Green: 8%
SNP: 3%
