Had a great session zero for my upcoming Daggerheart campaign! Made a prototype homebrew campaign frame and it was so fun to incorporate!

Prepping for a Daggerheart session zero and I'm already more excited than I've been for a DND campaign in quite some time. Hope it plays as well as it reads cause I've been having a blast reading through it, the GM section in particular.

Ouch. This one cuts to the bone.

Taking what I typically use as my DND setting and taking out the specific DND brand stuff to make it more of a system agnostic fantasy setting has been a fun creative exercise to prep for my Daggerheart session zero. Been wanting to branch out more for a while now,

Ok but no one is talking about how good Daggerheart SMELLS. New card/book smell is the best.

GM Tip: While there's no need to prepare every detail, don't under-prepare because you were afraid your efforts would be wasted. Nothing you make is ever wasted. You can use it later, in this campaign or the next. Even if you never use it, the practice still made you a better GM.

Girl Scout troops routinely meet at our local library using their meeting rooms. There are community groups run out of there for TTRPGs, board games, fiber crafts, and robotics, among others. The library is the third space you’re looking for—you’re allowed to eat & use the bathroom!
Utilize your local library. Mine has a large video game collection.

Comics, manga, movies, tv shows as well as you know... books

And online library apps like Hoopla have ebook, audiobook and comics as well and if you use your library card the metrics help your local library #Gamepass

I've heard of people doing interviews to see if people fit their #ttrpg group. Have you done this? If so, what has been your experience?

Tell me more about your #AwesomeCharacters

Does your character have *A Reputation*?

Do they have fame or infamy? Will strangers they meet have heard of them?

If so, what for? If not, does that change during the story?

Do they want recognition?

Using tarot in TTRPGs in any way is always a banger idea. Had a player use their tarot deck to give NPCs readings and it was always fun to roleplay and I would sometimes pick parts of the readings to turn into plot hooks down the line.
You should totally do this. It is very elegant and I've been enjoying using it to play a solo TTRPG

#dndsky, what small thing happened in your game that made a world of difference? One time, a group I was running started writing letters to NPCs in their backstories, resulting in further character development and even plot hooks!

Taking a mental health break from TTRPGs due to serious GM burnout but thumbing through rulebooks as if I were exploring the hobby for the first time is a nice soft way to rekindle my love of the medium.

Daily DM Tip: linear storytelling is not railroading! Having a sequence of events does not mean it is a railroad! Taking away player agency is railroading. As long as the players have options and their choices matter is all what matters, no matter if the events are in a certain order!

Conversations with the 8yo DM:

8yo DM: I made a new ooze monster.

Me: Do I want to hear about it?

8yo DM: Well, it eats blood… from inside your body… after you eat some meat that was infected by it. Once it replaces your blood, it controls your body like a puppet.

Me: No, I didn’t want to hear.

DM: You just took a long rest...you should feel fine I think.

Player: No I mean, I as a player am tired.

“I have too many books”
-judgemental
-boring
-implies impulse-control issues

“The books... they have me.”
- mysterious
- occult
- implies you are at the mercy of a library of books that have gained sentience and are holding you hostage
