Great, sad, funny thread by @drewmcweeny.com that sadly hints at the AI-ing of subtitles, and lack of human editing. But proves what I’ve written in my book: Directors should check their subtitles - for creative reasons, but also for errors. Whether Netflix allowed RJ that opportunity I dunno?
Okay... whoever did the subtitles for WAKE UP DEAD MAN needs a slap on the wrist. You made me feel temporarily insane tonight. I saw the film at the premiere a few weeks ago, and there's an ISHTAR reference that made me cackle. (1/?)

What’s interesting to me is it’s a window into the Penske pay-to-play world of awards season. While no big secret in Hollywood I doubt most consumers know that every actors-on-actors interview they see in their socials was bought & paid for by studios campaigning.

In Linklater’s great Nouvelle Vague Coutard tells Godard he’d make a great dolly grip. That reminded me of when I pushed dolly on my film Between Us and grip Mitch Galpin said only other director he had who’d pushed dolly was Johnny Depp on The Brave (whose OG producer was ax murderer I knew at USC)

As troubling as it is that James “Pimp outfit” O’Keefe is the one asking questions at Pentagon, the answer is more disturbing: We want our fake press rooting out dissenters in the Pentagon. Yikes! Worse than the McCarthyism.
