I have been thinking a lot about how our LRT network could have looked if we embraced our high-floor regional network instead of building a more locally oriented system

It lead me to this map, which I think would have been an incredible and fast network

It’s basically a way of saying “I don’t like what’s happening” but trying to make it sound objective
danyelling.bsky.social
I see the term "pet projects" in the exact same way

Like a meaningless term only meant to virtue signal that has no basis in reality

It just means "I don't like these things" not that they're useless

I am seeing people say the Valley Line West is a pet project

it's not wrong when it comes to transit, we can't keep up with pop growth, and can't even hit our minimum standards regardless of growth

But that requires significant investment to get there, and what council could we elect that is willing to put that money forward
danyelling.bsky.social
Such a weird rhetoric that Edmonton is "falling behind", and that significant change in council is how we catch back up

We have made so many moves in the past 4 years to reduce our infrastructure debt, get transit to new area, modernize zoning and development

Like I don't get the mindset here

Too often, we talk about homelessness as if it's natural or inevitable. The truth is that it's a political choice.

When then-Gov. Cuomo cut the Advantage program rather than tax his wealthy donors, his decision sent thousands of New York families into shelters.

I got to E Bike up McDougall Hill today and it was completely empty!

Low Level NB was closed for construction and it was so nice

It looked nearly done a few days ago???

The first time an Alberta government invoked the notwithstanding clause, public outrage forced a reversal in less than 24 hours. I wish to God Albertans would show the same moral fury now, when school children are outed & bullied by the government that is supposed to protect them. #ableg #abpoli

it’s been pretty remarkable to see how almost every single Republican politician is basically just a fascist waiting for a pretext to embrace a dictatorship

How the federal government funds public transit has changed with the Canada Public Transit Fund.

The Baseline stream funding could unlock $16.4 million every single year for upgrading and maintaining Edmonton's transit system.

We had a great time today talking with transit riders outside of the Old Strathcona Farmers Market!

There was a lot of excitement for the city’s BRT plans, ideas for improvements to communications and wayfinding, and discussion on fare payment changes.

Wait OSFM is complaining about $8 for parking????

I saw the sign and thought $8 was a bit steep PER HOUR, but $8 and I get to park here all day basically???
danyelling.bsky.social
Wait so are we having a runoff for mayor this election? I thought that was part of the changes but haven’t heard anything about it so far
danyelling.bsky.social
This is true, airports are weird but I think that can’t be avoided

Major train stations I think are what do this idea of a public and integrated mall, especially cause they have a primary use different from just shopping to draw in people

yes! malls are cool and good

They should be publicly owned and integrated into the street pattern of the surrounding neighbourhood (like indoor mainstreets), but overall awesome
danyelling.bsky.social
I know we tried with Blatchford and it didn't workout, but I really think a streetcar running through the Expo Lands connecting the east side of the site to the LRT Stations would do so well
danyelling.bsky.social
I wouldn't be the most upset if all the Expo Lands north of 118th were left bare for major events like K-Days (and ideally other stuff)

As much as infill neighbourhoods are amazing, sometimes we just need big stretches of concrete, and keeping that one allows us to build on the southern half easier

We talk to a lot of transit riders around the city, and one thing we hear no matter where we go is that Coliseum Station is not a fun place to wait for a train or bus.

Fucking over future generations of residents in your neighbourhood to try and keep one of Edmonton's richer neighbourhoods exclusive is a choice

While I am less concerned about covenants for overall supply, it is concerning that rich people wanna segregate themselves
