As suspected Trump is using the death of Charlie Kirk as a means to further vilify the left. The killer is still at large. We don't know who it was, the reason why or their political affiliation. The concern now is Trump using this as justification for the elimination of political opposition.

The US administration doesn't care about legalities. Snatching innocent people off the street without due process is intentional. Forcibly removing undocumented children from foster homes for deportation is intentional. Detaining legal immigrants from Hyundai on speculation is intentional.

It's bad enough the US is settling into fascism but the fact that the people in the charge are catastrophically stupid makes you wonder how easy fascism is to do.

Can't say I'm surprised. The man is a walking contradiction. Everything he says to the public and in media he in fact does and believes in the opposite. Definition of a snake oil salesman.

Why the problem with "it is never the comms" takes is that without an effective communications strategy a government cannot generate sustainable public support that creates the space for it to implement successful policies.

The thing about a lot of these never Trump Republicans is that, unlike a lot of institutionalist Dems who think the fever will break and we can all return to comity or whatever, these guys saw the rot up close and know the only appropriate response is to tear them out of government root and branch.

It is the ultimate form of martyrdom for a fascist. The pride placed on youth and mythologisation of the dead, in fascist societies, glorify death in service of the state or leader as a great honour.

I would say don't argue about the condition of hotels even with people you can persuade. That's not arguing on your terms but your opponents.' Instead appeal to people's compassion, empathy, respect for others and desire to do the right thing. Have the conversation about refugees *you* want to have.
fundamentally the problem is that if you think "hotels are where I stay on holiday and I like being on holiday so living in a hotel must be fun and it's not fair others get to do it and not me" then you have the intellectual reasoning of a little child and it's going to be hard to engage with you

Never understood why asylum seekers are not allowed to work in the UK. We have major labour shortages in a number of industries. Training programmes and jobs for people seeking asylum in struggling industries is a win win. More tax income and less strain on the public purse.
