If you work on any aspect of trust and politics, you'll definitely want to check out this agenda-setting collection co-edited by our brilliant colleague @danjdevine.bsky.social. Plus, it's open access and free for all! #polisky #commsky #socsky #econsky
A positive end to the first week back is that the book is now fully available. It's not on their website yet, but it is on mine.

I'm really happy with how it turned out and grateful to all the authors.

Hope it's useful.

🥳 New year, new publication

With Francesco Colombo, we study a street renaming proposal in Berlin and find -contrary to conventional wisdom- no political backlash, but a positive feedback effect.

But at least the first and last aren't irrational. We've regularly seen violent protests over the last year and are regularly warned about the potential for cyber attacks.
Britain has talked itself into a flat tailspin. Had weeks of ppl telling me that the country's on the verge of catastrophe. In reality real wages are rising and the economy growing. God alone knows what ppl would say if we went back to the early 80s, 17% interest rates and four million unemployed.

Labour has declined most amongst those in their 30s and early 40s.

Those, generally more on the left, have known nothing but Tory and recession Labour.

Really fascinating piece of survey research by @chrisclaassen.bsky.social and @danjdevine.bsky.social. Conclusion: "So for political parties, openly criticising empire is not a winning strategy. It yields only minimal gains on the left while antagonising and mobilising voters on the right."
Study shows views of British empire shape voting behaviour – but in subtle ways
Imperial nostalgia correlates strongly with support beyond the main parties: positively with Reform and negatively with the Greens.

Also a useful reminder that ~half the country don't know who Zack Polanski is, or at least enough to know whether they like him.

There's a good chance that many expressing some opinion are also making it up.

Nigel Farage: -35
