Europe's security and economic outlook threatened and the euro and pound are... stronger today.

Markets care more about the "chipping away" at credibility of dollar assets, say investors, particularly in a region that owns an awful lot.

This isn’t parody. It’s a message attributed to the sitting U.S. president arguing the world isn’t safe unless America has “complete and total control” of Greenland—because he didn’t get a Nobel Prize.

Any time you try to use tariffs as a weapon of coersion you're hoping that the other country's exporters are influential enough, and sufficiently exposed, to win a fight which pretty much the rest of their country.

As the UK discovered during Brexit talks, even German automakers have some limits.

It comes from the East — from the war in Ukraine. My greatest concern for Europe’s security is not Greenland, but Ukraine.

Even from a purely theatrical perspective, Starmer's tribute to Badenoch for offering cross-party support would have carried more weight if Conservative MPs had been there to cheer it.

There was a missed opportunity here to speak with the authority of Parliament, not just of a single embattled PM.

Quick romp through the agenda to find any US meetings we can cancel.
Or should we be nice and give them a shoulder to cry on?

So the President of the US got his feefees hurt bc he didn’t get the real Nobel prize and had to extort one instead. And the mean Nobel Committee pointed out that’s not on.

And he now longer “feels an obligation to think purely of Peace”

Pure alpha-male energy.

There's a better way. Stick by the rules in dealing with the rest of the world & create a de facto WTO minus the US. And in terms of retaliation, because you can't show weakness: ask what it was that the US pushed most for in WTO negotiations and previous trade deals, and deny them those advantages.

What Trump is threatening to do on tariffs -- what he has already done! -- is completely illegal under the GATT/WTO. By signing the disgraceful Turnberry deal which was also illegal, the EU was helping to destroy the rule-based order. For that reason alone it should not be allowed to resurface.
