This has been my latest case making project. As always, when you make it yourself you know all the mistakes you made but I am generally pretty pleased with how this one turned out. Traycases are definitely more challenging than slipcases!
And it’s done. Graham finished the traycase he made for my copy of Unquiet Slumbers pubbed by @nepenthepress.bsky.social
-I paid for the work by gifting Graham the rest of the silk (including a black version of the green he ended up using for this)

The smallest turns 1 tomorrow so we had a little celebration today. In keeping with tradition I attempt to decorate a cake. Nailed it?

Set myself the same reading target this year as I had last year - 100 books. Set a side target of 40000 pages. If I manage the same level of reading as last year both targets are pretty achievable. Will see how paternity leave affects my reading when I am off work from March to July…

My 2024 in board gaming. A pretty decent year considering I had a new arrival in the family and went to no conventions as a result

Wednesday night is game night! Race for the Galaxy and Agricola were the games today. Rolf won both, I was solidly in the middle of the pack for both

My #goodreadsyearinbooks just came in. Always interesting to reflect on what you have read. Been some really good ones this year!

Latest bookmail from Anderida and Broken Binding. I managed to read an ARC of In The Shadows of Thier Dying and loved it so very happy to get a nice edition. I have enjoyed the other O’Keefe books I have read and look forward to diving into her latest series soon!

This takes me back to my childhood. A significant chunk of my pocket money went on collecting these. Haven’t played any Warhammer in a long time now, but did take part in a couple of Bloodbowl tournaments a few years ago! Still have my old mini’s somewhere though. www.theguardian.com/business/202...
Watch out for the Weirdboyz: Games Workshop on track for FTSE 100

November reading review. Not my strongest month - some sickness at the end of the month slowed me down a lot! Dreadful was the pick of the month’s reads - it was just a fun and easy read with added moat squid 🙂

Today’s bookmail was the stunning Suntup Edition’s numbered edition of Winterset Hollow by Jonathan Edward Durham. This one had been delayed a bit by a printing error, but Suntup being the premium brand they are took the time to do it right. Love the choice of art here too!

Bookmail! A couple of LEs from Black Library and a broken binding set of J.E. Hannaford’s Aulirean Gates - a current SPFBO finalist I am keen to read!

Managed to snag publisher rights from Curious King on their latest release (Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy). Super pleased as I missed out on this on their first book due to some technical issues. They are the press most closely aligned with my own tastes and their editions are spectacular!

Today’s bookmail! A nice kickstarter special edition from Olivia Atwater and a nice Broken Binding edition from Ed McDonald!

Urgh. I absolutely hate it when big players in a market step into a space traditionally occupied by small and boutique outfits. They always use their leverage to try to bully the smaller players off what made them successful

Bookmail again! This time some lovely Grim Oak Press editions. Fool Moon technically arrived a while ago, but a shipping error with the slipcase means it is only now ‘complete’. Excellent customer service as always from Grim Oak

Wednesday night gaming! Got Arcs to the table for the first time. A proper knife fight in a phone booth type game! Oliver took an early lead and by the time the rest of us got our acts together to target him we were all too weakened so he took a convincing win.

Today’s bookmail is the LE from Black Library. I am genuinely quite impressed with quality of Black Library’s special edition bindings for their price point. This one is cloth bound with 3 colour stamping

I do wonder at the trends to re-imagine or write sequels to classic works of literature. Very rarely do these add any thing, usually they just come across as conceited and lazy, sometimes they actively detract from the original. It is like all the sequels and reboots in film - they are lazy and

Was meant to go and pick up some lumber for skirting boards for the youngest’s room today but the weather is conspiring against me. We are a non car household and walking 3km with lumber in a storm does not seem sensible

Just finished reading this and it was an absolute blast! Can thoroughly recommend it!
Thank you so much to everyone who helped make DREADFUL one of Barnes & Noble's Best Science Fiction and Fantasy Books of 2024! I'm so grateful for everybody who decided to take a chance on this weird little book about evil wizards with amnesia and moat squid.

Game night tonight. 11 of us gathered to celebrate Svein’s birthday so a good turnout! Played some 6 nimmt, Raiders of the North Sea and Camel Up.
