Amazon has had many opportunities to create dubbing projects filled with authentic storytelling, emotional connection, and believability. Instead they have chosen to create AI slop dubs of Banana Fish, Vinland Saga, and No Game No life. Many are calling these dubs "insulting" and "disrespectful".

This dub has always been good (no, *excellent*), but it sticks out to me all the more after watching that clip of "Banana Fish."

"Death Note."

One of the best English dubs of all time, and one of the crowning achievements of the Vancouver dubbing scene.

In case you were wondering where to send your thoughts on the AI "dub" of Banana Fish, you can do so here.

Be polite--and I *mean* that--but so long as you're polite, feel free to let them know exactly how you feel about the AI "dub."
That I can do.

Search Prime Video for the title (I went with Banana Fish), then click on Details, and scroll past the Cast page to "Send Us Feedback."

I'd like to expand upon one particular line from this great thread:

"No one was benefiting from this, except for the company's bottom line... and honestly, even that was all speculation."

Here's a dirty little not-so-secret about AI: it's not as cheap as it is made out to be.

<cont'd>
In private messages, we all agreed: this was bad for the shows, bad for consumers, and bad for our translation teams. No one was benefiting from this, except for the company's bottom line... and honestly, even that was all speculation.

But complaining to our management didn't do much.

Let me give some insight on this, as a producer in the dub industry who worked with major streamers, who's witnessed first-hand where this push for AI is coming from.

tl;dr: Only CEOs want this. Tell them how much you hate it. Be loud, email, call, @, post. You will kill this.

The only thing less human than these AI dub performances is the decision to sign off on them

A company this big can pay human actors a decent wage, not produce slop that intentionally removes the human element.

As someone who loves to watch so-bad-its-good content PLEASE understand you can't give shit like this the time of day

The only way to convince these companies to not use AI dubbing is to show it's not profitable, STAY AWAY from hate-watching and instead spend that time watching dubs you love

This is an AI dub, and as I mentioned in my previous post, it's God-awful (which I don't feel bad about saying since I'm not hurting the feelings of any human actor). It's one thing for the "acting" to be bad, but..."fin-jer"? The AI couldn't even pronounce basic words correctly?

I'm not in the habit of publicly naming performances I didn't like (for several reasons...*I* have performances I'm not proud of, maybe it was the director's fault, maybe production was rushed, etc.).

Since I'm hurting any human's feelings, though...this AI dub is just. God. Awful. I mean...WOW.
Hey just so you know Amazon decided to give us an AI ENGLISH DUB of Banana Fish instead of actually hiring real voice actors
it is fucking hot garbage

Gonna take it a step further--show up to *six* LA W&Ws. The reason I say that is because the final week has two meetings entitled, "Prioritization," which is exactly what it sounds like...and you can only attend Prioritization if you've gone to six LA W&Ws!
If you want these contracts to reflect your needs...

SHOW. UP.
TV/Theatrical/Streaming W&W caucuses have been announced and #SagAftraMember participation is vital! We want to hear from YOU! Find the meeting (or meetings!) that work best for you and use your voice. Get more information and RSVP at sagaftra.org/contracts2026.

Stand firm with your fellow actors, no matter the country. If you've received auditions for this, no you haven't. If you've already submitted for this, you're unavailable to accept the job. If you've already accepted the job, you don't want it anymore. If you've already worked it, you quit.

VOICE ACTORS (along with anybody who believes that AI should have regulations)! Somebody in Congress snuck in a 10-year moratorium (AGAIN) on state-level AI regulations into the National Defense Authorization Act. Call your senator and tell them that this is *not* OK!

LA-based SAG-AFTRA members! Please attend at least *six* W&Ws for the upcoming TV/Theatrical contract negotiations. Why six, specifically? Because there'll be a "prioritization" meeting in the final week, and you can only show up to that if you've been to six W&Ws.

I don't regularly watch w AD, but I have to think that voice artist Dave Wallace and writer Kathlin Finn are going above & beyond w #TheChairCompany =)

...until now!

IMDb now has a dedicated section for dubbing actors. I look forward to putting my live-action dubbing credits back up!
