Very impressive performance by Starmer at PMQs today. He has to maintain the line of being a 'bridge' between Europe and the US, and the diplomatic front that maybe it can be all made right with Trump. (1/2)

When you move around primarily or exclusively by car, you may not notice all of the evidence of car crashes around you:

bent sign posts
broken car pieces
entire buildings hit by cars

For those who travel by 🚶🏻, 🚲, 🦽 & 🚌 these reminders are everywhere on sidewalks, streets… & buildings.

I was showing live images of Jupiter on BBC 6pm news, and probably will be again at 10pm. This business of the ‘alignment of the planets’ unfortunately is just pop-science nonsense. The planets are always aligned (the line is called the ecliptic). This grouping of planets in the night sky is normal

Tesla Cybertruck Banned And Seized By Police In The U.K.
The Cybertruck has a cult following in the U.S., but safety issues such as excessive size and acceleration and sharp edges make the Tesla illegal on U.K. roads.

NEW: What makes BLUESKY the new “IT” place for Urbanists? It’s pretty significant that the American Planning Association is putting this out there to its huge membership. I was interviewed for it, as was @mitchellsilver.bsky.social & others.

I've now seen Comet 2023 A3 Tsuchinchan-ATLAS, but I found it a disappointment, not visible to the naked eye, in a twilight, hazy sky, low down. It was around 30º to the left of Arcturus, but I could pick up Arcturus an hour before the comet. 10x50 binoculars clearly showed the curving tail.

Nobody had heard of Sinwar for the first six months of the Gaza war. Do you remember? The leaders of Hamas were never mentioned at the beginning, nobody on the Israeli/western side seemed to think they mattered. So there’s no reason to believe that his death will mean the end of the war.

Heavy, powerful cars quickly destroy tires.

Tire wear spews tiny, toxic particles that have caused the collapse of fish populations in the Pacific NW.

Moral of the story: EVs shouldn't be overpowered and massive.

The Grenfell enquiry blamed a huge range of companies/people for failures. But one should have more blame than any other. Eric Pickles made a clear decision not to implement recommendations that came out of Lackenhall tower fire. He should suffer some consequences www.theguardian.com/politics/art...

“One of the biggest issues is not just the rise in consulting spending but that these consultants have very little knowledge about the stuff they’re consulting on.” Anyone who has had anything to do with UK local transport planning will know the truth of this. www.theguardian.com/politics/art...

Pope Francis on the Ukrainian war: ‘War always requires two parties’ and ‘Ukraine should have the courage of the white flag’. He seems utterly naive. Ukraine would inevitably lose their whole country if they stopped fighting. Putin won’t stop at a few provinces. #ukraine

The electric train was invented in 1879. The safety bicycle six years later.

Unleasing the potential of these two “obsolete” technologies is our best bet at addressing the converging climate, health, resource, and inequity crises.

Not smarter cars. Not cleaner cars. Fewer cars.

the fact that federal safety regulators have no power to actually regulate safety is one of those things about the US that you would make up in some kind of dystopian sci fi satire and everyone would be like "lol come on man that's a bit much"
