Something grimly predictable about the way that the conversation about 'ripoff degrees' in the UK is always about degrees that aren't rip-offs, but are instead fairly obvious 'this student has chosen something unlikely to pay off economically' rather than the short tail of crap business degrees:
Everyone needs educating in the fight over university degrees
Political confusion over the purpose of these institutions means the obvious fixes are being neglected

At some point these imbeciles are going to realise that arts courses are *funding* the courses they do like and if they cut those places unis will just go bankrupt so no maths or science either.

I think that's a good point: we've got so used to thinking of the Tories as the natural party of government (as they would have it) that the idea of a Conservative leader being, frankly, irrelevant hasn't really sunk in.

My English/Drama degree gave an ordinary girl from Birmingham an entree into people and worlds I would never have known, gave me critical thinking, made me a maker and consumer of theatre, telly, film and books, as well as a writer and teacher, and gave me a rich and wonderful life. #kemibadenoch

She's nothing if not predictable, is she? I know the Tories aren't keen on anything Green these days, but pretty much all they've done this week is recycle stuff they've been banging on about--for the most part fruitlessly--for the last decade and a half. And today it's "Mickey Mouse" degrees. 🙄

Dad’s books are full of empathy, common sense, and a healthy suspicion of the powerful. But at its heart his work is also about how systems keep people poor while pretending it’s their own fault. So I hope Kemi’s taking notes as well as reading the jokes.

Poirot: Mon cher Hastings, the proof? That we could not find, even though we searched, mon Dieu, how we searched?
Hastings: Yes, Poirot?
Poirot: It was in the pudding! Enfin, all the time! In the pudding!
(pause)
Hastings: Have a seat, Poirot.
Poirot: The pudding! All the time!

Frodo: I wish it need not have happened in my time.

Gandalf: So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.

Frodo: I think that having a historical scope that wide can make the present too deterministic.
