Minnesota’s State DOT asked the public what they wanted for the future of an urban freeway. Of the multiple options suggested, public comment overwhelmingly preferred replacing the freeway with a boulevard with housing and transit. Guess which was the only proposal MNDOT dropped from further study:
🚨If you are excited about the Twin Cities Boulevard concept, please help stop MnDOT from eliminating it NOW!

Topics covered include road pricing, parking reform, and transit system integration. For each one, USDOT summarizes research findings and suggests federal funding opportunities.

The notion that public school is for the poor and everyone else can go private is not progressive in any way. That’s an old neoliberal notion that has infected way too many people’s thinking (including some people who have some left leaning ideas).
Isn’t it ironic that in a column blaming Seattle progressives for the school closure debacle, the photo accompanying it features me, a prominent Seattle progressive, rallying opposition to closures? Closures weren’t pushed by progressives, they were pushed by extremists like Liza Rankin.
School closures were another swing and miss for Seattle progressivism
Our city failed at equity with defund the police, and now has done it again with the school closure plan. Will leaders learn from these repeated mistakes?
