About me: Mom of two girls and happily married to a handsome devil. Here for the hot Dem takes — a nice sane place away from the MAGA loons.
No TF we are not showing grace re: this, saying “irregardless,” or using “literally” when they mean “figuratively.” Showing grace is one thing but letting shit like this slide is how we got into the mess. And by “mess” I mean the current state of society as a whole.
Technically, ‘should of’ is ‘should have,’ but we’re all about showing grace in the new year.

Create a brand new group — a la DOGE — that is tasked with ONLY undoing all the inanity that’s being done right now. Call it the Restoration Crew and put em to work.
I doubt that any Democrat in the '28 mix would leave Trump's name on buildings. Questions are how they talk about taking it off, and what they say when reporters ask some version of "but wouldn't that further divide the country?"
There's a series of things (like the ballroom, Gulf of America) that we're going to have to *undo* the moment this guy is out of office.
And yet I can already hear future Democrat presidents saying "I'm focused on the people's work, not the knucklehead stuff" and just leave this man's shit up.

I’d expect helmet laws to go first, but seat belts can’t be far behind. Cause freedom. Freedumb.
Would we really be surprised if these people repealed seatbelt laws?
Sean Duffy on slashing fuel economy standards: "This rule will actually allow you to bring back the 1970s station wagon. Maybe a little wood paneling on the side. We can bring back choice to consumers."

We should ask a bored billionaire to set up a Hollywood studio and let these cosplayers act out some of their favorite movie tropes: special agents jumping out of a helicopter, astronauts slow-walking to the shuttle, cowboys racing across a prairie. Pick from Michael Bay’s catalog.

How incredibly sad it must be to see white people elect bile who see white supremacy as a virtue, instead of a plague."

Like it or not, Donald Trump's vulgar presidency is very much a black-and-white issue ...

It’s the same people who idolize Don Draper from Mad Men, despite his being a truly awful man — deeply flawed and impeccably acted, for sure — but still awful.
People are saying, "actually, Landman portrays the industry as immoral." C'mon folks. Millions of people came out of the Sopranos worshiping Tony. Millions worship Walter White. "The swaggering, macho hero with agency & good one-liners is actually, in the big picture, bad" *does not get across*.

Could have built one of the world’s greatest laboratories, libraries, research facilities, anything, and he chose… a ballroom.
Trump: First of all, the East Wing… was a poor, sad sight. I could have built the ballroom around it but it would have not have been -- we are building one of the greatest ballrooms in the world

Project 2025 was always about gutting SNAP and the ACA. If Trump voters are angry about the price of food and healthcare, they should look in the mirror. They voted to screw themselves and everyone else.

What happens to Dems when they get elected? Seriously. They all get to DC and lose all connection with the outside world and what their voters and supporters are very loudly and VERY PLAINLY asking of them?
even when the democratic party has leverage and one of the craziest election swings the party intentionally self immolates it’s just so exhausting what is even the point of these people

Hey Chris Murphy: this would be an excellent move to make tomorrow.
Hey just a reminder that it only takes 23 Senate Democrats to remove and replace Chuck Schumer as minority leader. They don't do it because the majority of Senate Democrats approve of the way he does politics.

I just want elected dems to put up a fight. It’s so deflating to time and time and TIME AGAIN watch the people I’m rooting for get shoved into lockers and never fight back. Harry Reid would’ve never interrupted the GOP when they were in the middle of making such boneheaded mistakes.
Chris Murphy: "There will be pretty substantial damage to a Dem brand that has been rehabilitated if on the heels of an election in which the people told us to keep fighting, we immediately stop... if we surrender without having gotten anything, I worry it'll be hard to get them back up off the mat"

Follow this lead, blue states.
Last night, the Trump Administration sent a letter suggesting Wisconsin should return our FoodShare payments.

And ask vulnerable GOP house members if they agree with what Trump is saying here. “He says costs are done across the board; what are your constituents telling you?” It is cartoonishly out of touch.
Dems need to start talking more about how Trump’s dementia means that he can’t distinguish his fantasies from reality. He has completely lost touch with the real world and only knows what his sycophantic courtiers are telling him.
Trump: "If you look at affordability, which they campaigned on, they lied. Because they talked about 'Oh, prices are up' -- no, prices are down under the Trump administration and they're down substantially."

Deployed military will have to be allowed to come home to vote, right?
Trump: "It's time for Republicans to do what they have to do and that's terminate the filibuster ... we should start tonight with 'the country's open, congratulations,' then we should pass voted ID, we should pass no mail in voting ... you go to a grocery store, you have to give ID."

Glimmers of hope in politics are few and far between these days so I too will celebrate so hard if these three win and Prop 50 passes.
I need Zohran, Abigail, Mikie, and Prop 50 to win because I need to feel even a fraction of the hope and joy I felt a year ago today

This is awful because first, people have lost their jobs and it’s a crappy time but ALSO, Teen Vogue does amazing political reporting and explaining. Seriously, they’ve consistently been one of the best.
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

Well done speaker johnson: you outlined a very solid platform for Dems. I’d vote for it.
Johnson: "If they had no filibuster, they would pack the SCOTUS. You'd go from 9 to 17 or however many liberals they could pack. You would make DC & Puerto Rico into states, which would give 4 additional Democrat senators & make us a permanent minority. You'd see massive restrictions of 2A rights"
