The East LA level in Tony Hawk's American Sk8land has an elaborate secret involving an invisible rail that clips you through geometry to an out-of-bounds section of the map, revealing a message telling you to hide in the bushes in the Beverly Hills map.

When you do so, the game plays a fart noise.

This issue includes a very cool article written by Nakafuji Yasunori (中藤保則), known for having served as editor-in-chief of Amusement Sangyō, and also for his book "Cultural History of Amusement Parks" (『遊園地の文化史』) published in 1984.

there was this great talk at one of the zig conferences where a developer talked about how they preferred static types because of their adhd.

static types are also an accessibility tool

CAIL = prerequisite knowledge for a critical perspective, such as to tell apart nonsense hype from true theoretical computer scientific claims. For example, the idea that human-like systems are a sensible or possible goal is the result of circular reasoning and anthropomorphism. olivia.science/ai

The blog post is now live! Come one, come all - enjoy this deep dive that commemorates going down the compiler rabbit hole (twice! in the Paris airport!)

But now you've got a continuing problem: Just which graphics card do you buy; Matrox? 3DFX? ATI? Rendition?

Buy the wrong one, and you could find yourself with a card unsupported by all but a handful of games. A bit of a minefield, and it's part of what sent my family to PS1 after Amiga.

PCEm can emulate old PCs with S3 and 3DFX 3D cards (possibly also Matrox?), and there seems to be an abandoned fork of it for PowerVR support.

You can also play 3DFX (via Dgvoodoo2 and nGlide), ATI (via GLRage), and Rendition (via RReady) games natively too, albeit with just the GPU emulated

Honestly I kinda easily forget Xabungle was being made and aired before Be Invoked was released. It's just way too easy to compartmentalize Xabungle as the "response" to Ideon. There's just some parts of your brain you gotta learn to kill lol

Electronic organizers and early PDAs continue to be fascinating to me, and this is one of the more unusual hybrids: The debut OZ-7000 model, expandable via 'IC Cards', each with specific functions, memory storage, and touch-sensitive overlays.
