Saw a post asking how this was different than modern RE games, or Mortal Kombat, and the answer is 'those are made by big companies that can start serious shit if Steam tried this'.

It's always just petty tyrants hitting stuff that earns their ire that is also small enough to not rock the boat.

approximation of fragment lighting is performed by rendering a high polygon sphere using the vertex lighting hw then configuring the texgen hw and tev such that it uses the generated texture as a reflection map. doing the lighting in the fragment also lets me workaround clamping in vertcol hw

rim lighting with no addl. cost in fragment. dissatisfying. rim lighting ought to be multiplied with an ambient occlusion texture or just the albedo but i reaaalzy dont wan2 add more complexity to the character shaders

Standard-def back compat on PS3 bothers me so much because it can't switch to outputting 240p for 240p games, like the Wii can in its 480i & 576i modes.

It force-scales 240p to 480p and then interlaces the output as 480i, so the scanlines will never be correctly aligned to the rendering res
