In English we know it as “Carol of the Bells,” but the melody arises from a Ukrainian folk tradition of songs welcoming the new year and summoning the forces of nature to meet human labor and bring prosperity.
Do listen.
I wrote about the history here: snyder.substack.com/p/o-generous...
Another beautiful Shchedryk performance amidst ruins.

It was set in what used to be a DTEK thermal power plant — now destroyed by russia.

The contrast between russia’s destructive nature and the Ukrainian will to create beauty even in the darkest times is palpable.

Epstein survivor: “Right now, we're all speaking to our lawyers, giving them the lists of things that should be found. I think that's something that maybe this DOJ doesn't remember: we have attorneys, and those attorneys have ALL of the info.”

By info, she means all of the same files the DOJ has.

This morning, U.S. Border Patrol goons raided a Home Depot in Huntington Park. During the raid, a man was being pursued by goons. As he attempted to flee, he ran into the street and was struck by a vehicle. He was hospitalized, received medical treatment, and has since been released.

First responders love this kind of thing
Much of SF lost power last night. Waymos blocked intersections across the city, even though they are Wayless than 1% of cars on the roads. They accumulated at their failure points--intersections with no green lights, in busy areas, and shut down traffic there.

What a shameful question.

First, it is not what Congress "asked for." It is what a federal statute REQUIRES.

Second, WTF does "spirit but not intent" even mean?

CBS bent a knee and paid Trump, it has a new owner who wants to please Trump, and sadly this is the result.
BRENNAN: This isn't everything you asked for just yet, but would you acknowledge that they are complying with the spirit if not the intent of your law?

MASSIE: No. They're flouting the spirit and the letter of the law. It's very troubling the posture that they've taken.

"heritage" is a word that raises my hackles. It's not *always* a white supremacist term, but it's one often enough that I get itchy.
I read "heritage American" as a way to give White people claim to a title in a sort of monarchy of meritocracy.

And I see the ambiguity as strategic--so lots of White people can claim, "my ancestors did something important™ for my country, so i deserve money/status/power more than others here."

Records from closed-door proceedings in Jeffrey Epstein’s sex-trafficking case, as well as that of his co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell, were made public as part of the Department of Justice’s release of material from its investigations. The documents added little to what has already been known.

I’ll never get over the fact that not only did the Biden DOJ sit on the Epstein Files for 4 years but Trump literally campaigned on releasing them when he was clearly all over the files.

They covered for him and then he made it an issue.

Tis the Winter Solstice, one of the oldest pagan celebrations, marking the shortest day & the longest night.
Coincidentally, it is also the 4th Sunday of Advent, celebrating Hope, Peace, Joy & Love.
However you mark the occasion (or not) have a good day, take care.
