Still laughing at this. Cannot imagine a more self-discrediting argument for socialism than “under socialism, you should be able to gesture to your crotch, tell a customer to suck it and keep your job”.
“Those of us on the left should be fighting to improve protections for workers of all races, and thereby for the betterment of people’s material conditions regardless of their views,” Arash Azizi argues:
Why the Cinnabon Story Doesn’t Make Me Happy
The left should be promoting working-class solidarity, not delighting in seeing workers summarily dismissed.

all I can hear in it is Orthodox Jewish men talking about how to "protect women" which involves eg enforcing ultra-modest dress codes and not allowing women to have certain kinds of education. "I will protect you by not listening to anything you say, because the voice of a woman is witchery".

For some older Jewish family - who aren't Reform voters but don't like Labour - having it on the record that he made explicitly antisemitic comments does make a difference.

Aside from the ridiculous “biological people” language, I really hate the sneering dishonesty of “the fiction they had rights that have been taken away”. If you’re a trans woman who’s been in the WI for decades and now can’t remain a member, that’s not a fiction!
Kishwer Falkner in The Times talking about the rights of "biological people". As compared to trans people, who are, of course, non-biological.

Thousands of words will be written and slide decks produced when essentially the message is "git gud".
But in practice, people understand how our terrible electoral system works and Labour's basic problem is 'the policy record is not something you get re-elected on', not 'how various voters facilitate that happening'.

Staying in a Jenrick-led Conservative party means essentially accepting all the moral compromises of being in a pact with Reform, but you don't even have a charismatic or likable leader.

Perceptive thread on some of the UK arguments and consequences from the US election from Gaby.
still parochially, for British politics there was already a Blairite-ish analysis of Harris/Biden that said they've overdone woke/given too much to the left, which will now feel vindicated, that's gonna have an impact on Starmer & Labour MPs with Reform threat in their seats. (Tories will take..

An achievement to celebrate: “We are at a case fatality rate of 22.7% — probably among the lowest ever recorded [for a Marburg outbreak],” said Dr. Yvan Butera, the Rwandan Minister of State for Health at a press conference hosted by Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Thursday.”
An 'unprecedented' good news story about a potentially deadly viral outbreak
The death rate for Marburg virus is nearly 90%. There are no approved vaccines and treatments. So how did Rwanda achieve what one doctor calls an "unprecedented" success in controlling its outbreak?

Musk's pioneering of space is IMO a very, very familiar story to anyone who has studied the British empire: a lot of the expansion was done by private enterprise, who had political allies back home, and in some cases they had to be brought to heel by the state.

Like, you've been making cheese on your farm with leftover milk for ages. Sometimes it turns out great. Sometimes not.

Then the fucking Roman Army turns up and is like:

"Sir. We are building a fort over there and not leaving. We will pay regularly for good cheese."

Woo! New industry just dropped!

If your plan is 'unify the right with lots of chauvinism, xenophobia and immigrant bashing', step 1 is surely 'Be a white guy'.
One example was Eric Zemmour in France, whose fun attempt to offer a spicier blend of xenophobia than Le Pen was hampered by his being ethnically Algerian Jewish.
