I have disagreed with pretty much everything Mark Carney has done since he won office.

I thought there was overlap between my priorities and his. Turns out we're pretty much polar opposites. So I can't support someone when I disagree with them this much.

Dramatically strengthens it. Per Singh from CBC: www.cbc.ca/news/politic... - this is potentially an increase from $25/tonne to $130/tonne.

But a lot of people don't seem to believe that pricing actually influences behaviour. Which is a weird thing to think!

This is weird framing, given that said deal actually strengthens the most important part — by far — of said Trudeau-era climate measures.

The pipeline stuff will get the most attention, but the bottom line of the Ottawa-Alberta MOU policy-wise is that Carney is scrapping or softening most Trudeau-era climate-related regulations in favour of putting (almost) all his eggs in the industrial carbon pricing basket.

It really has been interesting the last while to see Doug Ford's outbursts. The true Ford. From "get a job" to "audit orgs that might support left wing causes". The authoritarian belligerent bully that had no staff to muzzle him in City Hall days is still there. Does Ontario see? Do they care?

This. I got my new iPhone just before a trip and I kept my old phone in the luggage just in case. Didn’t erase it until over a week after getting the new one.
My advice to everyone. Never, ever wipe your old phone until you have verified that everything has migrated to your new phone.

Don't do trade-ins. Ever.

You need to keep both phones for as long as it takes to verify everything you rely on has migrated, or you learn a way to back it up.

I honestly don’t understand what‘s worse about having feminist aspects to Canada’s foreign policy - such as prioritizing tight ties & a greater level of cooperation with the EU, because of our shared cultural values around liberal, progressive social mores - and having a “feminist foreign policy”.

I’m not an engineer, but if we already have unfavourable evidence from experts and those with lived experience doing tunnelling under the 401 that we should probably listen and divert the funds from Ford’s Fantasy Tunnel to other projects.

Anyone calling this a “conservative” budget isn’t paying attention. It couples stable transfers with massive economic stimulus; modest civil service cuts with some light tax reform. It commits to the womens’ state, to affordable housing, and to industrial carbon pricing.

Overall I’d say this is exactly what I would have expected from the liberal platform and Carney as leader. There’s a definite focus on indirect incentives and demonstrably effective measures to shape private choices. Modest public service cuts, stable transfers, and lots of stimulus.

Carney has, so far, managed to resist pressure to make a deal that would see the same generous market access for the US and lavish personal benefits for Trump that Japan, the EU, and the UK all accepted.

That comes with a price.
