Was mulling indie rock dis tracks on the drive in. Off the top of my head, Sebadoh is the king ("Gimme Indie Rock" and "The Freed Pig"), but also Alan Licht's "Calvin Johnson Has Ruined Rock for an Entire Generation", Pavement's "Range Life", and Chocolate USA's "The Feelies Show". What'd I forget?

If you've ever liked Thee Headcoats, all you need to know about the new record is it sounds like more of the same.

And if you've ever liked Thee Headcoats, you know that's a good thing.
Today's BA newsletter is about author, painter, and garage rock primitivist Billy Childish, whose bands Thee Headcoats and Thee Headcoatees both have new albums out!

"So you take the bad stuff out?"

My work is additive, not subtractive. Video editing isn't principally tidying up and removing extraneous material, it's building a mosaic. It's taking raw words and adding punctuation and paragraph breaks. It's giving shape.
What’s the worst question someone can ask after you tell them your profession? For linguists, it’s definitely “how many languages do you speak?”, but I’m curious what else is happening to the rest of y’all out there?!

Nothing like calling a character "Mario Fava" to sell me on continuing to watch a stupid DTV film I put on because someone compared it to Wes Anderson.

(SNIPER: G.R.IT., which thus far is basically everything I could hope for from the 10th installment in an action series I've never explored.)

Man I wonder if there was a giant pandemic five years ago with a disease that both disrupted traditional neural and social development for teenagers AND can cause long-term cognitive processing issues.

Nah, we'd never forget something like that.
An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.

Thankful today for every indie creative - filmmaker, musician, zine writer, etc ad infinitum - who made something because they loved doing it, or even because they hated doing but fucking needed to.

In January I was firm in my belief that Larry David should un-retire CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM and do a season where he leans on Cheryl being married to RFK to get a job in the Trump administration but now I can't imagine how he could out-cringe reality

Seeing Pixies for the fourth time in 20+ years tonight. Every time, I've wanted to see them play "Dig For Fire", and they haven't.

Tonight, they're playing BOSSANOVA (and TROMPE LE MONDE) in full, so something will have to go catastrophically wrong for me not to get to see said song.

Lots of things I like about being in Welly for a few months, but there's no cinemas down here doing quick turnaround tribute screenings like these. Would love to revisit THE HARDER THEY COME in particular
