I figured I’d check, ‘cos I didn’t know: In Ireland, the guards (our police), don’t normally carry guns. They have to complete their 2-year basic qualification, serve with a clean record for 4 years, and then do 13 weeks of specialist training before they can be selected to join an armed unit.
47 days. That is all the training ICE officers get before our government hands them weapons and tells them to go raise hell.

Every rich person is going to tell *you* how great AI teaching is while sending *their* kids to the kind of schooling the Ancient Greeks would recognize. I just wish everyone would think about why that is.
I think we’re on the cusp of mass attempts to automate teaching, and I also think it is going to be a massive wasteful failure in ways that will make the “learning loss” of the pandemic look like a speed bump next to a mountain.

Sudanese journalist Yousra El Bagir has managed to get some footage out of Al Fashir in Darfur, Sudan. The RSF siege of the city has cut it off from food supply and medical assistance for months. One reason you hear very little about Sudan is that the RSF kills anyone who tries to document the war.
