thinking about the hundreds of millions of Americans who think their society is poorer and more violent now than it was in the past

why are they so badly mistaken?

it's a deep and wide folk belief.

It is not just the corruption of Trump pardoning someone who was making him richer. It is also a two-tier justice system where the rich can buy freedom.
Binance paid the lobbyist $800K for the pardon, and were offering lobbyists success fees of up to $6 million.

I was disappointed to find out that "gooning" does not, in fact, refer to LARPing a reenactment of The Goonies.

The problem is that for every “Will Stancil is wrong for x reason” argument there are 12 “Will Stancil drinks piss and is a Nazi, according to me, who claims to be leftist but is functionally indistinguishable from right wing trolls” arguments. So he digs in harder and it all gets lost in the sauce

I never again want to hear about how the Republican Party is the party of national security. You don’t incinerate our diplomatic capacity & violate all of our treaty commitments if you care about national security.
Context for Trump withdrawing dozens of ambassadors
*China has invested heavily in expanding diplomacy
*The US has significantly degraded soft power
*The US already has scores of diplomatic vacancies

WHO GIVES A DAMN?

It’s a public service, right there in the name. It exists as a public good for all the people in this country. It’s not supposed to turn a profit, you dolts.

Go audit the Pentagon and see what kind of return on investment we’re getting there.
