just met with my linguist committee member, she is great. however, based on what she thinks, i would like to warn my enemies to "watch out!" thank you for your attention to this matter.

In English, it's awkward to say (of a paradigm factual proposition, "That's true for you -- but it's false." "For you" doesn't work to shift evaluation so it's relative to the addressee's opinion.

I have the sense though that in Spanish you might be able to do that with "para ti." Thoughts?

The first sentence on the english wikipedia page about humor describes it as "the tendency of experiences to provoke laughter and provide amusement". The first sentence on the german wikipedia page describes it as a talent for facing life's inadequacies with cheerful ease.

Hunch: it's a strategy of avoidance. Roberts thinks that if the Court stops Trump now, it'll face a test of its power that it'll lose. At the same time, if it approves his actions, that could destroy its power too. So let him act but defer final resolution to a possibly-different political climate.
The part that I can't figure out is what John Roberts thinks he is doing. He used to seem to be a judge who was very attentive to appearances, I think on a theory that you can't draw too much attention to yourself without undermining your ability to continue to shape the law.

Many universities including @umassamherst.bsky.social now claim that federal cuts mean that the institution has to defund scholarship & teaching. My colleague Kevin Young recently published a report showing that in the UMass case, at least, this is completely wrong: drive.proton.me/urls/VS9FJ3D...

they shipped Gemini inside google docs a while ago and not sure but it seems to suck?? when i ask it to do things, it mostly just acts as "a chatbot that can read my document." what would be helpful is an agent that can use the tools of Docs to achieve my goals. it can't!

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but most of this money comes from donors, which means the donation are tax exempt as if the donations used to do coach buyouts were charitable giving.
This year, universities are giving $228 million to football coaches who failed at coaching football so that they won't coach football anymore.

i have no idea whether this kind of thing is quantitatively significant. do *we* have any idea? to know, you would have to do a pretty intricate audit of historical driving data.
"Self-driving car company Waymo recently released data covering nearly 100 million driverless miles in four American cities through June 2025..."

Here's the problem; Waymo has their taxis drive circles all night around the same blocks to artificially pump up the "safe miles driven" ratio.
"When compared to human drivers on the same roads, Waymo’s self-driving cars were involved in 91% fewer serious-injury-or-worse crashes and 80% fewer crashes causing any injury. It showed a 96% lower rate of injury-causing crashes at intersections" www.nytimes.com/2025/12/02/o...

Little by little, evidence trickles out that everywhere in Gaza touched by IDF ground forces is smattered with mass graves.

Until all the perpetrators are identified and brought to justice, every single person who served in the IDF in the last few years should be treated as a murder suspect.

Ammar Wadi knew he was risking his life when he set out to get a bag of flour for his family from an aid truck near the Zikim crossing into Gaza in June.
