TACTICAL ANALYSIS: A thrown water bottle is a slightly lower threat than a gas canister shot from a grenade launcher. Some experts say it's a significantly less threat. Others argue you'd be a fucking coward to shoot that at people in sandals and shorts while fully encased in tactical gear.

Also NASA having an SRT to protect moon rocks is actually awesome. If my tax dollars have to go to LEOs, that specific mission is what I want.

It’s like late-stage Ben & Jerry’s where they’re mixing/matching everything. I just wrote “SRT” for the bit, but Special Response Teams (SRTs) are a generic term like SWAT I guess. HSI, ERO, CBP, ATF, and DEA each have SRTs. So you can theoretically be part of the DHS ICE ERO SRT.

Pro-tip: if you have video of you or others directly intervening to obstruct ICE or de-arrest someone, for god’s sake don’t post it on social media. Or at a minimum blur faces first. You’re just begging for federal charges.

Please note that the things Mills is most mad about—false calls, and his officers being exposed to chemical weapons—have nothing to do with the feds attacking protesters. He's perfectly happy to have ISP do that instead so long as his guys are unbothered.

He arrived with a convoy of three vans and a Black Hawk helicopter from CBP’s Air and Marine Operations circling the facility for over an hour (thanks @pgoyette.bsky.social for the spot) When he stepped up for the photo op, the crowd shouted a variety of insults before settling on the chant.

Yes, arresting a journalist for doing their job is a big flashing red light. But I don't want people to forget the whole reason everyone is out there.

This is what I saw inside:

Four holding rooms. Two smaller rooms were being used for holding protesters. Two larger rooms held ICE/CBP captives.

A hand took mine, and guided me in the right direction to safety.

When I cleared my eyes with water, I saw it was a gender non-conforming/genderqueer person that saved me. I shouldn’t describe them for their safety, and it wasn’t the place to ask their identity, but it was clearly presented. (2/3)

Yesterday, while observing/photographing the violence from federal agents against non-violent protestors at the Broadview ICE facility, I was caught in a tear gas cloud. Goggles/N95 weren’t enough. Eyes teared up. Goggles fogged up. Sun and wind worked against me. I was blind. (1/3)
