I believe that scholars and practitioners in the biodiversity / ecosystem service community need to read this very well-researched and inspiring paper - The Nature of Planetary Habitability.

UN politics won’t deliver an ambitious plastics treaty
Negotiators again failed to finalize the text for a global plastics treaty in Geneva in August 2025. The talks exposed two harsh truths. Consensus on the treaty text, where no state formally objects, ...

The world has lost its most powerful advocate for nature and hope. Yet many remain who will continue her legacy and I know she will continue to inspire generations more.

Saw a patient in the ER that was struck by a car while riding their bicycle. They noted that they were not intending to make a police report because the driver had stopped and been nice. Mutual kindness is heartwarming, but there are reasons why making an official report is important.

David Wallace-Wells is the best climate journalist working today, arguably the best journalist period, and this is a fantastic summary of where things stand on climate change:
It Isn’t Just the U.S. The Whole World Has Soured on Climate Politics.

I have a new @nytimes.com guest essay w/ @davidkeith.bsky.social about sunlight reflection. We note its not a solution for climate change and at best a band aid to treat systems, and suggest if its ever done it should only be to replace the cooling from air pollution today:
Opinion | A Responsible Way to Cool the Planet
A small, carefully scaled geoengineering program could compensate for the loss of cooling as we eliminate sulfur pollution.

This is an absolutely brilliant paper that I can only recommend to all those interested in transport poverty/equity but also in sustainable transport/climate, and on how to reconcile the two.

I can only hope that it will have the impact it deserve

To blame the shift to renewables or the combustion engine ban for Germany’s economic malaise confuses cause and effect.
It is the costly and unnecessary over-reliance on fossil fuels and the insistence on combustion engines which no longer sell in China that deserve a closer look. #technologieoffen

Women, non-native English speakers & those form low-income countries are disadvantaged in science but by how much? We found that women with non-English first languages from low-income countries publish up to 70% fewer in English than their counterparts. 1/5

Scientific productivity gap based on English-language peer-reviewed papers. Shown are the maximum % differences in the number of peer-reviewed papers published by female native English speakers from a high-income country (-45%), female non-native English speakers from a high-income country (-60%), and female non-native English speakers from a lower-middle income country (-70%), compared to male native English speakers from a high-income country (red flag).
