Since Portland is once again in the news because of ongoing protests, I think it's important to understand the scale of what's going on, with a visual depiction of what Portland's Police Chief described a few days ago.

Google Earth image showing the ICE building at the end of Portland's South Waterfront. It shares a parking lot to the South with Tesla, both of which are labeled. There's a red rectangle around the ICE building labeled "Protests" showing the area in which the ongoing protests and/or riots are occurring.

Another Google Earth image which still has the red rectangle labeled "Protests," but it is much smaller and zoomed out to include more of the river, South Portland area, and Southeast.

A final Google Earth map zoomed almost all the way out for Portland proper. The box labeled "Protests" is a tiny speck on the map which goes out as far as Forest Park in the Northwest, Bull Mountain in the Southwest, Sandy to the Southeast, and past Washougal, WA to Molfair Tracts in the Northeast.

Just a 0430 thought, but I think everyone only has so much emotional bandwidth for dealing with stuff, and we aren't realizing how much of the world's wanton fuckery right now is saturating it.
Just existing feels like it's filling 90% of it, so maybe we can give ourselves and each other some grace?

1) My friends and I got lost on 5th Ave in NYC on the very last day of our 8th Grade trip

2) I had a former roommate fake a brain tumor for attention because he was in love with me

01) I have Tourettes and one of my tics is a weird, deep voice that I call my Tourettes demon. It's been nicknamed Patty.

I would also offer that they had on my favorite billboards ever just down the road on the exit before their Southernmost location.
It had a drawing of the Earth with an exaggerated arrow circling it from South to North which read, "Last Burgerville for 28,506 miles!"

The F-14’s Wing Center Section (WCS) is made of Ti-6Al-4V α–β titanium alloy in the annealed state (UTS ≈ 896 MPa), probably the most commonly used titanium alloy in the aerospace industry. The structure assembled by electron-beam welding (EBW).

I was disappointed at Costco once when they were out of chickens an hour before closing.
When asked if I found everything at checkout, I mentioned being surprised that they'd already turned off the rotisseries.
He was like, "They what???"
He thanked me for letting them know, and called his manager 🤷‍♂️
