A note from me on the significance of the recent move partially to decriminalise #abortion in England and Wales

Against a backdrop of rising prosecutions for ‘later’ pregnancy endings, #decrim in Northern Ireland through human rights mechanisms, and uneven commitment to decriminalisation as a whole
verfassungsblog.de
British MPs recently decriminalised abortion-seekers. But this success occurred in a Bill that threatens to criminalise poverty and restrict protest rights.

RUTH FLETCHER explains on what a holistic legal approach to reproductive freedom ought to look like.

Just here feeling quietly heartbroken for Virginia Giuffre and her family, on news of her death by suicide. And quietly raging at all who get away with (men's) abuse of women and girls, and a society that doesn't care enough to stop it - but yeah, trans women in loos.

'Deeply loving, wise, and funny': Virginia Giuffre, who accused Jeffrey Epstein and Prince Andrew of sexual abuse, has died
"It is with utterly broken hearts that we announce that Virginia passed away last night at her farm in Western Australia," the family said in a statement.

Labour's new policy - of humiliating trans people by requiring them constantly to self-identify - we believe puts the UK (again) in breach of its obligations under the European Convention on Human Rights and will seek a declaration of incompatability. goodlaw.social/0r6l

If men want to rape us they do not need to “pretend” to be women to get into our toilets or our changing rooms. They can just…rape us, in those spaces or other public spaces or in our workplaces or our homes, and they can be statistically pretty certain that they will never face punishment for this.

4. Support professional development including effective guidance for health professionals

5. Offer pain relief as standard to reduce the burden of self-advocacy

6. Record data on procedure pain to inform healthcare improvements.

We also make 6 recommendations to inform future research & practice & support equity in healthcare provision:

1. Provide clear information on pain to enable informed decision-making and consent

2. Don't downplay/ignore procedure pain

3. Prioritise diversity & inclusion in written/verbal info
drcarriep.bsky.social
➡️ Negative and judgmental attitudes were as big a problem as pain itself
➡️ Gender norms and power dynamics had a silencing effect
➡️ Negative perceptions of health professionals follow from painful experiences
➡️ Self-advocacy is challenging and should not be necessary in this context
