Realistic expectations evangelist.

Funny and satisfying seeing @edzitron.com getting a shoutout from Scott Jenson. Also satisfying seeing someone from the trenches talking sense about UI design, and our lack of solid understanding these days.

Remember. The claim at the center of this scam is you can just tell the computer what you want and it'll magically do the thing. Which requires user training for some reason.
Yeah man you call it “training funds” I call it “paying your customers to use your product”

Not only a LOTR name, which is lame as hell, but also the bad guy's name. Like, if this company sells cameras as part of their security you know they're stealing footage of you to train "AI" weapons. Total losers.

The only response to people like this is "Shut the fuck up" and make fun of them. Bari Weiss is a piece of shit regardless of gender, ethnicity, religion, or nationality.
What these people are doing to the power of calling out real antisemitism, in an incredibly dangerous time of surging global antisemitism….man, it is just so worrisome

I can't be bothered to care that the US is banning people because their policy positions are anti-tech behemoth or anti-genocide. Like, what kind of a threat is being banned from this place anymore? Who TF is coming here on purpose??

Let me add to the din by saying if Anthony Enzor-DeMeo thinks adding dogshit "AI" to FireFox will win him anything but the anger of FF users, he's out of his mind. The reason we use FF instead of the others is the lack of this shit. @mozilla.org needs a serious rethink.

I haven't laughed this hard at a drunk couples' expense in a very long time. This amount of life drama is a sign that you should quit drinking entirely, but my god we would lose so much potential content.
Hazie's, a San Francisco restaurant co-owned by celebrity chef Joey Altman in Hayes Valley, had quite an eventful Saturday night. A video showing a couple assaulting employees at the restaurant has gone viral on social media, racking up over 780,000 views.

Just so I'm clear on this, computer memory has tripled in price because a bunch of it that hasn't been produced yet has been ordered to populate GPUs that aren't installed in data centers that aren't built yet in order to service a demand that doesn't exist to make profits that don't happen.

Watching Avatar, they say "unobtanium", and I audibly groan and say "fuck you". Still annoyed by it to this day.

Also going to a Fast and the Furious release with a local Subaru club.
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

The existence of pets in a home makes the bipedal robot requirement dumb on its face. Unimaginative slop from people that listen to corporate marketing too much.

Saying, "I personally get tremendous value [from AI]" is an instant disqualification for me. You what? How? How does the low cost, low value word guesser provide value for you? And, if it's so low cost and low value, what do you think the thing you're doing is worth?? WTF?

I'm impressed. Having clear examples and solid evidence, the SEC decides to drop its civil action.

I assume "in the exercise of its discretion" means "it would make bumping into each other at parties awkward"
Big news on the corporate accountability (or lack thereof) front: The SEC just dropped its case against SolarWinds and its former CISO for allegedly defrauding investors about the company's cybersecurity posture prior to its major hack. www.sec.gov/enforcement-...

AI use makes us overestimate our cognitive performance
A study led by Aalto University reveals that when it comes to AI, specifically, LLMs, the Dunning-Kruger Effect doesn’t hold. All users show a significant inability to assess their performance a...
