It’s a lengthy read, but that’s what we‘ll get to:

‚We need a greater recognition from society and politics of what the Covid virus can do to bodies, long-term.

Above all, what we need is liberation from judgements.‘

Media flurry about the biomarker test for ME. 🧪

It's a promising discovery stage study but what needs to be done to turn this into a validated biomarker?! 🧵

Infographic titled “ME Biomarker Claims” with a header “Latest Research.” Image shows test tubes, one filled with red liquid as a pipette adds a drop, symbolizing biomedical testing. Text summarises: researchers using EpiSwitch® found immune-linked chromatin markers distinguishing ME/CFS patients from controls, but small sample size and limited validation make biomarker claims premature. ME/CFS is a devastating condition that has long been denied, dismissed, psychologised and underdiagnosed. Research is at last starting to catch up with it, with glimmers of hope for those who have been left untreated for so long.
There's a huge BUT coming ...🧵

In Germany, it is common now to call the severest form of LC ME/CFS. In the UK, we tend to talk about either LC or ME.

It would be very interesting to look at a cohort of LC patients - would this test be able to pick out those with PEM??

‚This isn’t about money: it’s about how we can provide the best and safest service while struggling with too few doctors and growing demand. No matter how many times we reiterate that tinkering with access doesn’t increase capacity, it seems that no one at NHS England is listening.‘

Local newspaper, Germany, today.

Yes, people aged 60 and over, and those with chronic illnesses, are advised to get the yearly Covid vaccine.

#LongCovid
Are people still being vaccinated against coronavirus?
Yes, the Stiko (German Institute for Occupational Health) recommendation still applies here: people aged 60 and over, or those with chronic illnesses, should be treated every fall with an mRNA vaccine that has been newly adapted to current variants. Side effects do not increase with annual re-administration.
If someone actually tolerates the vaccination very poorly, one must consider whether it is absolutely necessary.

Are the people deciding who can get the Covid jab now familiar with the massive increase in people unable to work due to ill health? Are they seriously thinking there is NO connection?

People want the Covid vaccine.

Especially in a world where vaccine hesitancy is rising, that should give health agencies a pause for thought.

Are they giving out the right message here??

Yes!

As a minimum, all patients coming through Long Covid clinics should be tested there for POTS as standard.

#LongCovid
CONCLUSIONS:
In this cohort of predominantly younger women with highly symptomatic long COVID, POTS is common and presents with overlapping symptoms between POTS and non-POTS patients. Long COVID POTS confers lower physical activity and capacity compared with non-POTS long COVID and should be systematically assessed in this condition.
drelke.bsky.social
‚Not eligible‘?

Does this include people who are immunocompromised (one of the criteria for getting the vaccine) due to living with #LongCovid (T-cell dysfunction etc), but that not being recognised by government and pharmacies?

We should be eligible, on the basis of their own criteria!

The MILLIONS of people who were denied vaccines are suddenly realising.

@rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social this was a terrible idea.

Not only will the NHS struggle this autumn / winter, but people will suffer and die unnecessarily.

It isn't too late for a U-turn!
Community Pharmacy England

Q

Pharmacy teams have reported major issues to us over the last two days related to large numbers of patients booking COVID-19 vaccinations via the National Booking System (NBS) who are not eligible for the vaccine this winter.

We are working with NHS England to try to address this unacceptable situation and to get more NHS communications issued to help people understand whether they are eligible for the vaccine.

In the meantime, we have created three posters that pharmacy teams can use to help explain about vaccine eligibility this winter:

Everybody should read his letter.

This affects school children, teachers, and their families.

Anybody who works in schools. Anybody who meets socially or professionally with people who work in schools or who have children.

Not many people are untouched by what happens in schools.

this study highlights that Long Covid remains a risk with every Covid infection, including for children and adolescents.

Particularly relevant as the Children's module opens for the UK Inquiry.

It's nonsense to say that children are and were at no risk from Covid.
