Updated pinned post.

Gardening still keeps me grounded. This is my third year with a community garden plot as well as the third summer our family has navigated Long Covid. I continue to read as much research to advocate and help as many families as I can.

#LongCovidKids
My community garden plot with several large purple coneflowers in bloom. It is a wall of large green leaves with pops of purple, white orange and pink. Additionally I am growing three varieties of black eyed Susan’s, cornflowers, Shasta daisies and nasturtiums. Interspersed are several garlic plants, salvia tomatoes and in the back of the plot cosmos. Close up of two purple coneflowers with a huge bee feasting on the pollen.

There is a core of women who I talk to weekly who I would never would have met if it weren’t for BlueSky. 💕💗💕

Plus the support from fellow parents on the @longcovidkids.bsky.social USA group on Facebook who helped me during some of my darkest hours.

An excellent article by Laurie Jones, executive director of @meaction-mi.bsky.social, about the difficulties that proposed Medicaid work requirements would cause the ME/CFS community.

"There is nothing beautiful about shifting the burden onto those least able to bear it. But this is precisely what our nation is now poised to do."

ME/CFS is a devastating condition that has long been denied, dismissed, psychologised and underdiagnosed. Research is at last starting to catch up with it, with glimmers of hope for those who have been left untreated for so long.

Writing to Working America(ns)
The letter you write might be the one thing that gets PA working Americans to focus on healthcare as their top voting issue. And with an issue in mind, they're more likely to go to the polls!

I do think that postcard/letter writing campaigns can be crafted to target voters with messages that resonate with them. I do not think all campaigns are effective. I like @swingbluealliance.org methodology of working with grassroots organizers and measuring the effectiveness of their campaigns.

Long COVID associated with SARS-CoV-2 reinfection among children and adolescents in the omicron era (RECOVER-EHR): a retrospective cohort study

Long COVID associated with SARS-CoV-2 reinfection among children and adolescents in the omicron era (RECOVER-EHR): a retrospective cohort study — Bingyu Zhang et al.
"In this study involving 465 717 individuals, we observed an increased risk of PASC across multiple organ systems after SARS-CoV-2 reinfection, reinforcing concerns about the long-term consequences of reinfection. These findings emphasise the ongoing risk of PASC with reinfection, regardless of severity, and suggest that the risk of PASC might be cumulative with each successive infection."

Someday I will tell you the story of how at a recent protest, a democratic organizer told a young adult we know well that they should not care about Gaza because it was not “happening here”.
torres-amy.bsky.social
Your thoughtful comments really got me thinking. There has been such an effort in MA to reach voters in purple states. I have lost count of how many postcard campaigns I have participated in. How many were impactful? If we are going to have meaningful change, we need to truly listen to voters.

The point of these raids is not "arresting criminals" and pretending it is gives them validity and implies that there is a number of suspected criminals they could have arrested that would make this worthwhile. The point is demonstrating power and impunity and terrorizing communities.

Wow, they did all that and got *two* suspected gang members? Suspected? Wow. And two of them? Wow.

Plus a guy with a previous charge of marihuana possession? Wow.

Wow, that is impressive. Wow, when are we throwing these heroes a parade? Wow.

It was standing room only at today's Living with Long Covid exhibit at the @museumofvan.bsky.social!

I was moved to tears by some of the personal stories on display. Such a great event
Long Covid researcher and activist Kayli Jamison speaks at today's Long Covid launch event at the Museum of Vancouver Selfie at event wearing a white headstrap zimi mask with purple flowers One of the stories that resonated - "I was able to venture out for an ice cream cone with a friend this day. I don't feel comfortable eating in restaurants or going to bars like most people my age. Spring and summer are nice beaches they give me more options to spend time outdoors with fewer people around - which means I get to see the people I love more often. Even short moments like this help me feel a little more like a "normal" 24 year old again Some of the personal stories on display.
